Just A Lump Of Clay
Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Jeremiah 18:1-6
1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,
2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.
4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Clay – a sticky, mud like substance.
God formed man out of the dust of the earth. It was time consuming, evoked thought, required Him to form us with His own hands, and gave Him the right to come back and change the vessel, because He’s our creator.
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Being the author of the book, He has the right to write the ending of the book any way He wants to!
Malleability – the degree of ability to be molded or changed.
John 9:1-7
1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7 And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
God made the first pair of eyeballs out clay, why couldn’t He make another pair also?
Attributes of clay:
1. Moldable
2. Becomes soft again by simply rewetting
3. Can be reformed
4. Beauty can be brought out by the hands of the potter

Our very beginning was of clay!
Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Our lives are molded from the very beginning of our birth. Your characteristics and attitudes are the product of someone else molding you. Nothing is created in our environment, everything is molded.
- Vessels become marred on the wheel; God never throws the vessel away; he just remakes it.
- The vessels are made as it seems good to the potter.
- Only by rebelling against the potter do we cause Him to throw us off the wheel.
Job 33:6 Behold, I am according to thy wish in God’s stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
Isaiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, thou art our father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand
Isaiah 45:9 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
John 20:24-29King James Version (KJV)
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
1. All of Thomas’s dreams and ambitions had been wrapped up and tied to Jesus.
2. Not understanding was Thomas’s greatest sin.
3. Out of frustration and fear he said “unless I touch Him…”
4. The potter simply poured a little water on him and begin to rework the vessel again.
5. Instant belief on the part of Thomas
