In Remembrance

On February 20, 1836 a meeting was called at a little mission in San Antonio, TX. The purpose of this meeting was to inform the handful of people there that Santa Anna was only 2 days away and had over 6000 men to take the city of San Antonio. Colonel Jim Bowie, who had been shot in the leg earlier and was crippled, told everyone that to stay would end in sure destruction and death. He then drew a line in the dirt, and told whoever wanted to stay to cross the line. 187 people crossed the line. They sent a 12 yr. old boy on the fastest horse to try and get help, and the rest of them settled in for the fight of their life.

  • Feb. 22 the 6000 member army begin to pound the walls of the Alamo with cannonades
  • 12 days later they finally broke through
  • No ammunition left, the fighting went hand to hand
  • Over 2000 Mexicans lost their lives from only 185
  • Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, and many others lost their lives that day
  • In the room that J. Bowie was in on his crippled bed, over 21 men were dead because of his courage
  • March 6, 1836 all was lost
  • April 21, 1836 Sam Houston was fighting the same enemy, & was losing
  • In the middle of a retreat, one old boy yelled “Remember the Alamo”
  • The retreat turned to charge and the Mexican army was defeated for the last time in that war

To this day, the cry “Remember the Alamo” has a stirring effect on anyone that is using it, because of what they accomplished.

  • All memories are not bad!
  • Everything in the past is not harmful.

2 Kings 5:15-19

15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray thee, take a blessing of thy servant.

16 But he said, As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules’ burden of earth? for thy servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.

18 In this thing the LORD pardon thy servant, that when my master goeth into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leaneth on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon thy servant in this thing.

19 And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.

  • Leper
  • End of his rope
  • Came a long way
  • Healing
  • Offered all kinds of riches
  • Elisha would take nothing
  • Naaman then asks for 2 mule loads of earth
  • Why?
  • Promise in exodus that if you were in a place of struggle and you could not get to the temple of the man of god, that if you had 2 mule loads of earth from the place of your last victory, dump on the ground, and god would meet you there
  • Naaman knew that he was going to need his memory of what god could and would do for him

HE IS A PROVIDER!

HE IS A PROVIDER!

1 Samuel 21:8-9

8 And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.

9 And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

  • 10 yrs. later
  • Running for his life
  • All thoughts of the earlier slayings or victories are gone
  • Fear
  • Failure
  • Fugitive
  • No food, no weapon, and no place to go
  • The only place of refuge he could think of, the house of god
  • Any food?  Only table of shewbread… Fresh bread!
  • Any weapon? Only the sword of goliath, whom thou slewest… Reminder of past victory!!
  • All of the memories of that by-gone day came flooding back

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

IF HE DID IT ONCE HE’LL DO IT AGAIN!

WE ARE NOT DEFEATED AS LONG AS GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE!

Where is the sword of your enemy, whom thou slewest?

Get it out! & Use it!

2 Samuel 12:19-20

19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

RELIVE THE EXPERIENCE!

1 Corinthians 11:24-25

24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

The institution of Calvary was never meant to be a one-time affair, but rather a continuance over and over in your life

  • Pain
  • Drama
  • Tears
  • Whipping
  • Crown of thorns
  • Forsaken by his followers
  • Mockery
  • Common criminal death
  • Death by suffocation
  • Blood & water flowed

Hebrews 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

If He is crucified again because of our sin, and we take upon ourselves the responsibility of that act, His blood flows freely again for our benefit!

  • Partake of the body…
  • Partake of His blood…
  • But do it in remembrance!

HE DIED FOR YOU!

HE LOVES YOU!

It was not for the world He died, but for you and me!

Remember why He did it, and for whom…

Just as the cry “Remember the Alamo” stirs up the patriotism in all of our hearts, “Remember Calvary” should stir us even more.

Because of Calvary:

  • My sins are washed away
  • The hg is in my heart
  • I’ve been healed
  • Comforted
  • Delivered
  • Victory of Satan
  • Grace is now a part of my life

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

  • Find Repentance again
  • Renew your Holy Ghost experience again

In Remembrance of Calvary, renew your relationship with Jesus Christ

Relationship

What God & I have together

I had to write to tell you how much I love you and care for you.

Yesterday, I saw you walking and laughing with your friends; I hoped that soon you’d want me to walk along with you, too.

So, I painted you a sunset to close your day and whispered a cool breeze to refresh you. I waited – you never called – I just kept on loving you.

As I watched you fall asleep last night, I wanted to touch you. I spilled moonlight onto your face – trickling down your cheeks as so many tears have.

You didn’t even think of Me; I wanted so much to comfort you.

The next day I exploded a brilliant sunrise into glorious morning for you.  But you woke up late and rushed off to work – you didn’t even notice.

My sky became cloudy and My tears were the rain.

I love you, oh, if you’d only listen. I really love you.

I try to say it in the quiet of the green meadow and in the blue sky.

The wind whispers My love throughout the treetops and spills it into the vibrant colors of all the flowers.

I shout it to you in the thunder of the great waterfalls and compose love songs for birds to sing for you.

I warm you with the clothing of My sunshine and perfume the air with nature’s sweet scent.

My love for you is deeper than any ocean and greater than any need in your heart.

If you’d only realize how I care.

My Dad sends His love.  I want you to meet Him — He cares, too.

Fathers are just that way.

So, please; call on Me soon. No matter how long it takes, I’ll wait — because I love you.

Your Friend, Jesus
