Emotional Healing

Luke 4:17-21 (KJV)

17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

Emotion is the greatest power there is in the universe.

Closet bondage-things we never want to allow anyone to see and therefore we hide our hurts and healing can never take place.

3 out of the 5 things Jesus laid out for himself to do, deal with the mental side of things.

  • Brokenhearted-to completely break
  • Captives-prisoner of war
  • Bruised-crushed

Physical infirmities we can live with and still have joy, but never can our emotions be destroyed and joy continue to reside.

Physical infirmities are much easier to deal with and to learn to live with.

The interior anguish is easier to hide, but harder to live with within yourself.

God has a special touch for people who have been battered, torn, and abused by life’s perplexities.

Jesus knows right where we are at right now!

Hebrews 2:14-15 (KJV)

14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

Hebrews 4:15

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses , but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin.

He knows our

  • Feelings
  • Hurts
  • Fears
  • Anxieties
  • Frustrations
  • Hang-ups
  • Problems
  • Even the number of hairs on our head

He accepts us just the way we are!

Ecclesiastes 4:1 (KJV) So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

  1. Tears of the oppressed
  2. The oppressors had power.
  3. The oppressed had no comforter.
  4. All travail of the sons of men (Eccles. 4:4)
  5. Every right work for which a man is envied of his neighbor

The devil’s most powerful tool is DECEIT!

Psalm 10:7-10

7 His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.

8 He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent,

watching in secret for his victims.

9 He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless;

he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.

10 His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.

  • The most common lie from the devil is that no one cares and no one understands.
  • Even if you told someone, they would not believe you.
  • It is so hard for you to even believe in the comforter, because you feel like no one can comfort you.

But the Comforter has come!

HE KNOWS AND HE CARES!

Luke 4:18-21

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

His ENTIRE Purpose in coming was for you!

3 MAIN THINGS CAUSE MENTAL ANGUISH

  1. Fear- either of failure, of what someone will do to you, fear of fear
  • Fear is faith in the enemy.
  • Fear will drive people insane, you become afraid of everything.

Timothy 1:7 (KJV) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Luke 21:26 (KJV) Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

Fear is of the devil!

  1. Abuse- physical, mental, sexual, or verbal.
  • The abuse
    • Is not your fault!
    • Was not your fault
    • Cannot be fixed or wiped away by your continual beating of yourself

Isaiah 42:3 (KJV) A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

Jesus would rather heal than break, and ignite than to quench.

  1. Guilt- the blood covers all of our sin.

Isaiah 64:6 All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.

The very best that you could do cannot compare to the holiness of God.

Romans 3:25 (KJV) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Psalm 103:12 (KJV) As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

1 John 2:1 (KJV) My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Calvary still works and the blood still flows!

2 Samuel 12:18-23

18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

21 Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.

22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

David

  • Should have been fighting
  • Saw a naked woman bathing
  • Lusted
  • Called for her
  • Adultery & baby
  • Murder
  • Man of god and parable
  • 9 months go by
  • Birthing
  • Death
  • Fasted & prayed while the baby was still alive
  • Perceived the child was dead
  • Arose
  • Anointed himself
  • Changed apparel
  • Worshipped
  • Ate food

6 steps to overcoming your past

  1. Arise- get up and leave the place where you are at, (Bartimaeus), surroundings play a major role in you thought process
  1. Washed- cleansed himself from all of the dirtiness of the past.  Not only should we leave all of our belongings or trappings behind us. (laying aside every weight & sin…)
  1. Anointed himself- reminded himself of the first anointing that God has placed on him and renewed his belief in the supernatural
  1. Changed apparel- left garments of the past in the past, (old things are past away…)
  1. Worshipped- God is always worthy of worship no matter what, and also thankfulness was bursting in his heart because of mercy
  2. Ate food- started his new life immediately, never stop to remember, just go on

Only by our repentance and turning away from our sin will the past lose control on our lives.

Isaiah 1:18

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Isaiah 38:17

Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

We do not have to live under the load of guilt.

No matter:

  • What you have done
  • Who you did it with
  • How low in sin you may have went

AFTER REPENTANCE IT IS UNDER THE BLOOD, NEVER TO BE REMEMBERED AGAIN!

Proverbs 28:26 (KJV) He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Isaiah 26:3 (KJV) Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Peace, hope, and joy in the Holy Ghost can be yours tonight!

Matthew 16:19 (KJV) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Matthew 18:18 (KJV) Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
