What Got Me Here, Will Not Take Me There

1 Samuel 17:33-37

33 And Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.”

34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock,

35 I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it.

36 Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.”

37 Moreover David said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the LORD be with you!”

NKJV

  • Many things only work for a time
  • Deodorant
  • Gas

Everything has a shelf life!

God does not always work the same way.

  • Manna for 40 yrs.
  • Cross the river
  • No more manna!

GOD IS KINDA WEIRD!

  • Jericho
  • Widow & oil
  • 3 Hebrew children
  • David & Goliath

DAVID

  • Young
  • Ruddy
  • Brash
  • Confidence in God
  • HISTORY
  • Lion
  • Bear
  • Slew both with hands
  • David spoke with confidence to Saul about what God had done and what God was about to do!
  • You & I would have never thought to grab stones.  We would have rushed Goliath and grabbed at his beard, because that is how God had worked before.

Isaiah 43:19-21

19 Behold, I will do a new thing,

Now it shall spring forth;

Shall you not know it?

I will even make a road in the wilderness

And rivers in the desert.

20 The beast of the field will honor Me,

The jackals and the ostriches,

Because I give waters in the wilderness

And rivers in the desert,

To give drink to My people, My chosen.

21 This people I have formed for Myself;

They shall declare My praise.

NKJV

  • What “new thing” does God want to do in this church and in your life?
  • I cannot limit God, by only allowing Him to do what I am comfortable with, because of our past history
  • Israel could not readily change their mindset, from slavery to conquerors, and a generation had to die in the wilderness.
  • God will let us go as fast or as slow as we can learn the lessons.
