He Still Moves Stones

Revelation 22:18-20

18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;

19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

NKJV.

God has always been perceived as a god of Judgment. A supreme being who is so awesome that we feel as humans, like the scum of the earth.

Let us look at a few examples:

  • Creation- simply spoke the world into existence
  • Ark- judged the whole world
  • 10 plagues- just for His people to be let go
  • Red sea- supernatural working
  • Children of Israel-killed 600,000 men because of their unbelief
  • Jericho- walls fell down flat
  • Captivity- allowed the Jews to be taken into captivity because of their backsliding

From the beginning of the OT God has seemed to be a huge, and far from us.

  • Heavens are His throne and the earth is His footstool
  • Holds the waters of the earth in the palm of His hand
  • Measures out the hills and mountains on scales and balances
  • Counteth the stars and calleth them by name
  • Meteth out the heavens as a tent there to dwell in
  • Carries the dust of the earth in a poke

Even the adjectives we use to describe Him, elevate Him from us:

  • Mighty God
  • Everlasting father
  • Prince of peace
  • Counselor
  • First & Last
  • King of kings
  • Lord of lords
  • Alpha & Omega
  • Holy
  • GOD

Because we recognize God’s greatness and our inferiority, our faith can sometimes be shaken.

The supreme test of anyone’s faith is Calvary!

  • Wrapped Himself in flesh
  • Walked among us
  • Gave His life and His blood washes away EVERY sin we have ever committed and takes care of those we will commit

This at times can almost seem to good to be true.  Skepticism can have a heyday with this situation.

BUT!!!

Revelation 22:18-20

18 For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;

19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

  • The word of God is true

Romans 3:4

4 Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written:

“That you may be justified in your words,

And may overcome when you are judged.”

In this ever-changing world, God is a constant!  If you need something to stand on, stand on the word of God.  It will not fail.

What really makes God is not His awesomeness, but His love!!

Luke 7:11-15

11 Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd.

12 And when He came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.

13 When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”

14 Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”

15 So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother.

  • Widow already having lost her husband
  • Lost her son now
  • Funeral procession
  • Had compassion on her (in the Bible Jesus never failed to have compassion on someone)
  • STOPPED EVERYTHING
  • Weep not
  • Raised the boy from the dead because of His love or compassion for the woman

Hebrews 4:14-16

14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

God is not:

  • Some mystic person
  • A far off
  • So big we are not important
  • Disinterested in you

God is:

  • Interested in every person in this room
  • As close as a prayer
  • Big enough to fill the world, yet small enough to live in my heart

John 11:1-7

1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

2 It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

3 Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, “Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”

4 When Jesus heard that, He said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

6 So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.

7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.

  • Lazarus was Jesus friend
  • Sickness not unto death
  • Stayed 2 more days
  • “I may awaken him out of his sleep”
  • Arrived and found 4 days Lazarus has been in the grave
  • Lord if you would have been here
  • He shall rise again
  • In the last resurrection
  • No one believed Jesus was there to do a miracle

NEVER WRITE GOD OUR OF THE PICTURE!!!

  • Cave and stone lay before it
  • Take ye away the stone!!!
  • Stinketh and rotting
  • If you will believe, YOU WILL RECEIVE
  • Removed the stone
  • “Lazarus”
  • He that was dead came forth
  • Loose him and let him go

HE STILL MOVES STONES!!!

Hebrews 13:8-9

8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

HE STILL MOVES STONES!!

Luke 24:1-9

1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared.

2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb.

3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.

4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments.

5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead?

6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee,

7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ “

8 And they remembered His words.

9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.

NKJV

We have a God who still moves stones!!!  Nothing can stop our God from helping us!

HE STILL MOVES STONES!!

What do you have that needs to be removed?

What stone can He move for you?

Hebrews 13:8

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

  • God does not operate in time
  • Now just as much then

Purpose of Him coming was our participation in His resurrection.

Romans 8:10-11

10And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
