Why Walk On Water

 

Matthew 14:24-32

24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.

27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”

29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

 

• Something behind everything
• Hidden agenda
• Never take things at face value

 

Romans 10:17

17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

• What is the true purpose of faith?
• Where does faith take us?
• How do you know when you have it and when you do not?

 

 

Hebrews 11:6

6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

 

 

It is essential, and without it, we cannot please God.

 

Mark 5:23-33

24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him.

25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years,

26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse.

27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment;

28 for she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”

29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?”

31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ”

32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing.

33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.

 

• Heard of Jesus
• Decided she must touch Him
• Pressed her way through
• VIRTUE
• Her faith brought her closer to the Lord and the miracle cam
• Daughter & then the miracle

 

Faith is the mode of transportation that brings us closer to the Lord.

 

Once we are closer then the miracle comes.

 

• If the miracle did not come, then we blame the failure on not having enough faith.
• If the miracle is not going to bring you closer to Him, it will not happen

 

 

God is about relationship

• The only time heaven rejoices is when a sinner repents, which is the beginning of a relationship.
• The miraculous does nothing for God
• There is no difference to Him, between speaking the world into existence and healing your headache
• Its all about HIM

 

Matthew 14:28-29

28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”

29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

 

• Storm
• Fear
• Jesus walking to them on the water
• Terrified
• If it is you????????
• COME
• The miracle of walking on the water was to give Peter the ability to get closer to the Lord

 

Let us question our request:

• Are most of our petitions for us or, for us to draw closer to God?

 

God loves us so much that He will do everything to draw us closer instead of just answering requests.

 

GOD WANTS TO BLESS US!!!!!!

 

If I trust God then I will believe His word and let Him decide what is good and what is bad for me.

 

EVERYTHING MUST BRING ME BACK TO HIM!!

 

Why walk on water? To get closer to God
