I Can Do It

I Will Work, Who Will Let It

Isaiah 43:13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?

Several years ago I remember playing the computerized version of Monopoly.
When you would try to help the computer to sell a property or make a move, the computers voice would say in an annoying tone,

“ I Can Do It”!  And it would not let you help it no matter how right you were or how much it would benefit the computers player.

I’m borrowing this scripture from our Bible Study on Wednesday evening where we were discussing God’s ability to bring the miraculous into our lives when we learn to trust Him.

“I will work, who will let it?”

Romans 1:17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

  • Having faith means not trusting our own understanding or natural ability.
  • Having faith means losing the “I Can Do It’ mentality and saying to God, “I Need Your Help”.

  • You and I understand something that not everybody understands and that is that God will work for us if we let him.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Trust is a hard thing to give someone.

  • Yet that is what God desires and even requires of us.
  • And not just a little bit of trust, but with all our heart kind of trust.

  • If I were to ask you this morning, “How much do you trust Him?”
  • How many of us would be able to say, “With all our my heart.”

When I think of trust, I think of Abraham and the day that the Lord told Him to take his only son Isaac to the top of the mountain and to offer him there as a sacrifice to God.

Now God never did let Abraham do this, but God wanted to know if Abraham trusted His God as much as the other people of his day trusted their Idol worship.

  • All the way up the mountain, “I trust you God, but this is really asking a whole lot.”

  • In the end, God provided a sacrifice for Abraham, but it was not His son.

God is looking for people who will trust and have faith in His ability to provide for them.

Isaiah 43:13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let it?

  • According to the scripture, God is looking for people who will let Him work in their lives.
  • He is looking for people who are done with trying to do it by themselves.
  • He’s looking for people who have grown tired of having the “I can do it!” mentality.
  • Time after time after time we have gone the wrong way, done the wrong things, said the wrong stuff, acted the wrong way and basically behaved in a way that is contrary to the will of God in our lives to the point that God has no influence or effect in our lives to guide us toward righteous living.
  • But some of us have grown tired of the uphill battle that only brings us grief and sorrow and sadness.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the will of God in my life.

  • I’m ready to say, “yes” to Jesus Christ!
  • I’m ready to say, “Lord, have your way in my life!”
    • “Go ahead, begin to do a work in my life, I will let it”
    • “In fact, I’m looking forward to it!”

When we trust in God, He is able to show us His miraculous power.

  • How many of you have seen an outright miracle in your life?
    • Do you know where those come from?
    • Trust!
    • Trusting God no matter what the situation looks like.
    • Trusting the Lord even when others have given up!
    • Trusting Him especially when everything looks impossible.

Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

Some = not everybody!

  • Just because some people put all their trust in themselves and their own abilities, doesn’t mean I have to.

  • Just because some people put all their trust in their wallets or their jobs, doesn’t mean that I have to.

  • As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
  • We will trust the Lord.
  • We will remember the name of the Lord our God!

There is a place for a PMA – Positive Mental Attitude

But there is also a place where we say “Lord Have Your Way”!

Thine will be done!
