Dig Deeper

Psalm 42:7

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

In India the need for clean drinking water. Bengal Basin

Ganges River – Delta

  • Ground water is separated by 240 plus feet of clay.  1st aquifer is ground water (coliform bacteria),
  • 2nd aquifer is arsenic traced – As-Pollution – As-pollution is a by-product of the reduction of sedimentary iron ox-hydroxides
    • 5x World Health Organizations allowed amount.
    • Clean water – Ancient -sets at the 3rd aquifer that is as much as 350 ft. below the surface.

In order to get a safe well, you have to drill a hole through the first 2 aquifers and past the 240 plus feet of clay to the 3rd aquifer where the safe water sets.

There are plenty of wells everywhere, but no healthy water.

  • They don’t go deep enough and no seal was placed in the hole to stop cross-contamination between the 3 aquifers or levels of water.

  • Government paid to have wells dug, but then the payoffs for government officials and contractors caused the wells to be only 200 ft. deep.

  • These inferior wells cause sickness and death to animals, as well at the humans who depend on the wells for their water.

So when we are digging wells there I tell the driller – “Dig Deeper”

  • 350 feet = 105 meters”

No one wants to dig deeper.

  • As you dig deeper, you encounter obstacles.
  • Rocks, Hard Clay,
  • Deep means more time
  • Deep means more work
  • Deep means more materials
  • More cost
  • More dedication

We like things on the surface.

  • We like things easy
  • We like things to not mess up our daily routine
  • We don’t like to have to work to get something
  • Quick and easy, that’s how we usually want things.
  • Mark 10:17-25 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
  • 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
  • 19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
  • 20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
  • 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
  • 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
  • 23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
  • 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
  • 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Rich young ruler

  • Wanted it quick
  • Just buy it now
  • How much does it cost?
  • He never thought there might be more to this than a shallow list of do’s and don’ts.

This man thought you could just scratch the surface and find salvation.

  • He thought all you had to do was throw a few bucks in the plate.
  • He didn’t realize that it was going to take a whole lot more than shallow commitment.

I’m asking this church to Dig Deeper.

  • I believe it’s time that we begin to look deeper into God’s Word.
  • I believe it’s time that we begin to pray deeper than we have in the past.
  • It’s time that our commitments to this church grow deeper.

But remember, deeper means more work

  • It means more time
  • It means more materials
  • It means more cost and more dedication.

You can’t have a deep walk with God and get it easy.

  • You can’t have a deep walk with God without working for it.
  • Quick and easy are just not going to work if we want a relationship with God that affects those around us.

Scripture, “Deep calleth unto deep.”

If you’re struggling with depression, worry, financial difficulty, relationships, sin, feeling like you are not saved dig deeper.

.  Pray

.  Fast

.  Ask God to help

.  He’s waiting for you to turn your heart to Him.

.

If you want a closer walk with God dig deeper.

.

Don’t settle for a run-off walk with God.

  • That’s where all the crud is.
  • The rainwaters wash all the junk into one place and then bacterial sets in.
  • Cholera epidemics start from this level of well.

Your well needs to go deeper.

  • Go deeper by reading your Bible.
  • Go deeper by praying
  • Go deeper by making church a priority
  • Go deeper by making commitments to God.

“Deep calleth unto deep”

Jesus is not shallow.

  • His commitment to you is not frivolous.
  • It was not cheap
  • It cost Him something
  • It cost Him everything

Punch through the ground water experience.

  • Don’t settle for the very next spiritual experience you find past the run off water either.
  • Dig deeper.
  • Get down into the ancient water.
  • Get down into the Promises of God.
  • Go past the 240 feet of clay.
  • It may not seem like there’s anything down there, but keep drilling!

And once you find it, don’t forget to seal the well.

  • Don’t let cross contamination occur.

After all the drilling, they find out that water from the 2nd aquifer leaches down into the third aquifer by following the hole you drilled.  They have to pour concrete or bentonite (swells 18 times it size) down the hole to seal it.

Once you find the deep experience with God, seal some things off.

  • Don’t let your past cross contaminate your future.
  • Get into your Bible
  • Learn how to pray
  • Learn how to fast
  • Make coming to church a priority
