A Man Of God
2 Tim 3:16-17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Perfect = fresh, complete, fitted, having reference apparently to “special aptitude for given uses.”
- Is not perfect.
Adam – no backbone
Noah – Alcohol
Moses – Murder, poor public speaker, Whiner
David – Adultery, Murder
Gideon – Afraid
Peter – Brash, Naked,
Paul – Murderer of Christians. Religious piety,
- These were some of the most noted men of God mentioned in the Bible.
- Their humanity was very evident.
- These men were not and did not proclaim to be perfect or Holy Men.
- Yet we know that they were great men of God.
- Is chosen – None of these men had aspirations for the Ministry God called them to. They were chosen and hand picked by God.
- Only Paul had a religious background, and it was far from the teachings of Jesus.
- Several of their lives did not line up with the direction God was taking them.
- David a sheepherder. Became King of Israel.
- Gideon a farmer – Became the leader of a great army.
- Peter a fisherman – Became the Preacher of Pentecost and Leading Apostle
- Is forgiven for their Human Weaknesses’.
Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
- Enabled and used by God for great advances to the Kingdom of God.
- When a man realizes and confesses his humanity and human weakness he can then be used of God.
- As long as someone thinks they do not need God, they cannot be used of God.
- Pride will stop the will of God quicker than anything.
- But once a person comes to a place of accepting their humanity, they can be healed and used greatly.
- Is willing to stand up for what was right.
- When God spoke to them, they listened and did what He asked.
- Not ashamed of what other people thought of them.
- Is willing to continue in their call even after they’ve made mistakes.
- Has a heart for God.
Psalm 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
- Their hearts were tender to God’s voice.
- They were tough men, with soft hearts toward God.
