THE PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS

TEXT:   Hebrews 9:1-28 through 10:1-23

Heb 9:1-10:23

1          Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary.

2          For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary.

3          And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all;

4          Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;

5          And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly.

6          Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God.

7          But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:

8          The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing:

9          Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;

10         Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.

11         But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;

12         Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13         For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14         How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15         And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

16         For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

17         For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.

18         Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.

19         For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,

20         Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

21         Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.

22         And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

23         It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

24         For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

25         Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

26         For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

27         And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

28         So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

CHAPTER 10

1          For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

2          For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

3          But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

4          For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

5          Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

6          In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

7          Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

8          Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

9          Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

10         By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

11         And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

12         But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

13         From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

14         For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

15         Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

16         This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

17         And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

18         Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

19         Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

20         By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21         And having an high priest over the house of God;

22         Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

23         Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

(KJV)

Was Jesus a sinner?

  • Some preach that when He hung on the cross He became guilty of sin. That He was an alcoholic, a homosexual, a liar, profane . . . a sinner.
  • Some say that He drank the “cup of sin”.

The devil hates the purity of Jesus Christ!

  • Because a sinful world threw everything that it had at Jesus, and He sinned not!
  • And that just burns the devil up, because . . .
  • When Lucifer was in heaven . . . before sin existed . . . and there was no devil to tempt him . . . he could not live for God . . . even when things around him were perfect . . . and there were no trials, tribulations or temptations . . . he wimped out . . . he could not cut the mustard . . . he was too weak!
  • When there was no excuse to fail . . .he failed!

So now he tries to run one smear campaign after another on Jesus!

  • He tries to infiltrate our ranks with the message that Jesus was less than pure at His death on the cross.
  • But I’ve got news for him . . .We Are Not Buying The Devils Lie!
  • He is a liar, and the father of lies.
  • The truth is not in him.

He cannot tarnish the fact that . . .

  • Jesus died as a spotless lamb . . . without wrinkle or blemish.

If you don’t mind, I am going to plagiarize the words to an old and famous Merle Haggard song . . .

  •  When you’re walking on my Jesus . . . son . . . you’re walking on the fighting side of me!

I’ll tell you how I feel about it: At His death . . . when the last breath was expelled and He gave up the ghost . . . Jesus was . . .

  • Spotless
  • Pure
  • Holy
  • Without blame
  • Beyond accusation or reproach
  • A lamb for sinners slain
  • He was a scapegoat for US!
  • He bore our sins . . . not His!
  • He was the innocent sacrificed for the guilty
  • The blood that He shed was indeed PRECIOUS BLOOD!

Acts 2:24

24         Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

(KJV)

Why did death have no hold on Him? Because, sin is what death used to hold men captive . . . but Jesus knew no sin, so death had no charges to hold Him with. Being sinless…that’s the key to overcoming death, hell and the grave. Those who go in sinless will rise at the resurrection. He was the first fruits!

That is how I feel about it . . . How do you feel about it?

  •  If you feel like I do . . . stand to your feet and give Him an ovation!

Col 2:8-15

8          Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

9          For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

10         And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

11         In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

12         Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

13         And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

14         Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;  Nailing/Greek = Spike fast

15         And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

(KJV)

Jesus did not go to the Cross alone.

  • Because spiked fast to His cross were our sins!
  • Ours . . .because He had no sin of His own!
  • And while Satan thought He was making a show of Jesus by crucifying Him on a cross . . . Jesus was spoiling the devil’s principality.

Spoiling in Greek:

554  apekduomai (ap-ek-doo’-om-ahee);

middle voice from 575 and 1562; to divest wholly one, or (for oneself) despoil:

  • Jesus was the middle voice . . .He went where no sinful man could go . . . He mediated the gulf that was set between God and sinful man when sin entered in at Adam and Eve’s transgression in the Garden.
  • He became the mediator of a new covenant . . . in the old covenant man was held captive by sin . . . in the new covenant, he proved that a man without sin could not be held captive by death.
  • The devil could no longer control the outcome.
  • Had Jesus went to the grave guilty of sin . . . he could not have risen from the dead and triumphed over death, hell and the grave.
  • But because He was spotless, sinless, and pure . . . Death could not hold Him!
  • The grave could not contain Him!
  • Hell had no dominion over Him!
  • And because He willingly nailed our sins to His cross . . . He triumphed over the curse of death for us!
  • He provides for us the victory.

1 Cor 15:55-58

55         O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

56         The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

57         But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58         Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

(KJV)

Church . . . the devil made a BIG mistake . . .

  • He tried to kill the one and only Jesus at Calvary.
  • He thought He could have dominion over Him in the grave just like He had over everybody else.
  • But because He knew no sin . . . Jesus rose from the dead!
  • And now . . . when we repent as the scripture says we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost . . . and when repentant people are baptized by emersion in water . . .and the Name of Jesus Christ is called over them . . . they at that point (and only at that point) take on the family name of Jesus . . . and because the bloodline is pure . . . the blood of Jesus that was shed for our sins washes away their sins!

Soon after Calvary the devil had a dilemma

  • He thought He had eliminated the Jesus problem when He crucified Him on the cross.
  • But three days later He rose from the dead . . . triumphing over it.
  • And a few weeks later . . . on the Day of Pentecost . . . 120 more people became like Jesus!
  • Soon followed by 3000 . . .then by 5000 . . . and the count continues today!
  • You that are born again are Hell’s greatest dilemma!
  • You that are here that have not yet been born again are Hell’s greatest fear . . . because it knows that you are so close to slipping out of its clutches right now!

Rom 6:3-9

3          Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4          Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

5          For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

6          Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7          For he that is dead is freed from sin.

8          Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9          Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

(KJV)

If you are here, and you want to be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ, we have a preacher . . . and we have water. Do you have that same hunger that the Ethiopian eunuch had in the book of Acts . . . when he first heard baptism preached to him, he had his chariot stopped, and he said to the preacher . . . “Here is some water. What is there to prevent you from baptizing me right now?” And Phillip baptized him right there in Jesus name!

Who was Jesus? Well, let’s start with the primary commandment of God to Israel . . .

Deut 6:4-5

4          Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5          And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

(KJV)

Exod 20:2-3

2          I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

3          Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (KJV)

Isa 42:8

8          I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

(KJV)

Isa 43:1-3

1          But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

2          When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

3          For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:

(KJV)

Isa 43:11

11         I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

(KJV)

Isa 44:6

6          Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

(KJV)

Isa 44:8

8          Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.

(KJV)

Isa 45:5-6

5          I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

6          That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. (KJV)

Isa 45:21-22

21         Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

22         Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

(KJV)

Matt 1:18-25

18         Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

19         Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.

20         But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21         And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

22         Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23         Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

24         Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25         And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

(KJV)

Isa 9:6

6          For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (KJV)

Acts 20:28

28         Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

(KJV)

2 Cor 5:19

19         To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

(KJV)

John 14:10-11

10         Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

11         Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.

(KJV)

John 10:30

30         I and my Father are one.

(KJV)

John 14:8-9

8          Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.

9          Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

(KJV)

Rev 12:10-11

10         And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

11         And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

(KJV)

Some trust in . . .

  • Mohammed
  • Allah
  • Buddha
  • Krishna
  • Self
  • Nature
  • The gods of the Hindu’s
  • Nature
  • The sun. Moon and stars
  • Rome can trust in its Mary
  • Salt Lake City can listen to the angel Maroni
  • Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we will remember the mane of the Lord Jesus Christ!
  • His precious blood hides a multitude of sins!

Acts 4:12

12         Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

(KJV)

If Jesus was simply a man:                                      But . . . If He was God:

1) What happened to Him was murder                        it was an offering!

2) What happened to him was martyrdom                    it was a sacrifice!

3) They took His life from Him                                  He laid down His life for us!

4) I admire Him                                                     I adore Him!

The blood on the doorpost was redeeming blood.

The blood on the altar was atoning blood.

The blood on the leper was cleansing blood.

The blood on the book was covenant blood.

The blood on the priest was consecrating blood.

The blood on the mercy seat was pleading blood.

But the blood of Jesus was precious, living, saving blood.

The first Adam did not have to sin!

The second Adam, Jesus, had to not sin!

The precious blood of Jesus is the only anecdote for the venom of sin . . .

CALCULATE: How many gallons of blood were spilled when Solomon dedicated the temple? And yet it could not remit one sin stain! But the blood of one man, Jesus, covered a multitude of sins for mankind.

Eph 1:7

7          In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

(KJV)

Eph 2:13

13         But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

(KJV)

Col 1:14-20

14         In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

15         Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

16         For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

17         And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

18         And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

19         For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

20         And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

(KJV)

1 Pet 1:18-19

18         Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19         But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

(KJV)

Heb 4:15

15         For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

(KJV)

Jesus did not drink the cup of sin! That is unbiblical!

1 Cor 10:21

21         Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of devils.

(KJV)

2 Cor 5:21

21         For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

(KJV)

Note: That does not mean that He sinned, in fact it plainly says that He knew no sin, but He made Him to be the scapegoat for our sins.

His was a cup of suffering . . . the innocent slain for the guilty. We need to remember that lest we ever forget it.

1 Cor 11:25-26

25         After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

26         For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

(KJV)

The following is from an article in the Pentecostal Herald, written by Mark Jordan, entitled “Was Jesus Human?”

Jesus was not an angel.

Heb 2:9

9          But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

(KJV)

Jesus had human parentage.

Acts 13:23

23         Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

(KJV)

Matt 1:1

1          The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

(KJV)

Rom 1:3

3          Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

(KJV)

Gal 4:4

4          But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

(KJV)

Jesus developed as a normal human being.

Luke 2:40

40         And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

(KJV)

Jesus looked, acted, and felt like a man.

He was recognizable as a Jew. (John 4:9)

He was mistaken for an ordinary man. (Luke 24:13)

He looked like the gardener. (John 20:15)

Jesus was tempted to sin.

Matt 4:1

1          Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

(KJV)

We also read that Jesus ascribed human names to Himself, that He was the sacrificial lamb, that He had flesh which was capable of dying, and that He had a post-resurrection body that became a prototype for all believers.

Jesus died as a man, and thereby He destroyed the devil.

Heb 2:14

14         Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

(KJV)
