7 Lies Of Satan

Text: John 8:44

John 8:44 – Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

John 8:44 (MSG) – When the Liar speaks, he makes it up out of his lying nature and fills the world with lies.

I.                   INTRODUCTION

A.      WHY DO PEOPLE LIE?

1.            We all know that Satan lies!

a.     But, why do people lie?

2.            Let me ask you three questions:

a.     How many of you have ever been lied to? (Let me see a show of hands).

b.     How many of you have ever been lied about? (Show of hands)

c.      How many of you have ever told a lie?

(1)             Let me see a show of hands…

(2)             Uh, oh!  I think some of you just lied!

B.       ILLUSTRATION: SON IS A LIAR

1.            I read about a father who met with a child psychiatrist because he was “very concerned about the wild lies his son had been telling.”

a.     He asked the doctor, “How can I get my son to stop telling these wild lies?”

(1)             The psychiatrist told the concerned father: “Go home and tell your son the biggest lie you can think of.  Then ask him if he believes it.”

(2)             “Reality will set in, and he will realize what he has been doing, and will stop it.”

2.            So, the father went home and told his son this phenomenal story:

a.     “Son, the other day when I was playing gold, the strangest thing happened…

b.     “A green poodle with yellow polka dots ran out of the woods and tried to bite me…

c.      Just as he started trying to bite me, a huge pink gorilla came out of the woods and started chasing the green poodle with yellow polka dots…

d.     And that green poodle with yellow polka dots bit that huge pink gorilla on the neck and threw him into the lake!”

(1)             The father then asked his son, “Do you believe that?”

(2)             To which the boy excitedly replied, “Why YES!  That was MY dog!”

3.            You know, there’s just no help for some people!

a.     Allow me to interject something important here:

(1)             When you reject the truth, all that’s left to believe is a lie!

4.            The devil wants you to believe some lies that will destroy your family…

a.     Lies that will destroy…

(1)             Your marriage…

(2)             Your children…

(3)             Your hopes and dreams…

(4)             And, of course, your soul!

5.            Today, I want to make all of us keenly aware of how the devil operates.

a.     Jesus tells us, “For he is a liar and the father of lies,” (John 8:44).

(1)             And remember, if you lie, you are demonstrating a “kinship” with the devil!

(2)             I don’t know about you, but I want to leave here today with a greater dimension of truth than ever before!

(3)             So, I want to reiterate what I’ve already said:

(a)              When you reject the truth, you are left with, and forced to believe, a lie!

II.                 BODY

A.      TEN COMMANDMENTS REMOVED

1.            In Manhattan, Kansas, a few years ago, city officials removed a five-foot-high granite tablet with the Ten Commandments on it from City Hall.

a.     Why?

(1)             Because they feared a lawsuit from the ACLU!

2.            They did not fear God – they feared the ACLU!

a.     Psalm 2:11 – Serve the Lord with fear…lest He be angry with you and you perish in His wrath.

3.            Preachers in many churches today are preaching “Pop Psychology” and a “Hot Tub” Christianity that dodges the tough issues of sin!

a.     They are trying to get a congregation to “feel good” without “being good!”

(1)             And people are too busy trying to “explain” their sins, instead of repenting of their sins!

(2)             They want to place blame for their sinful actions on everyone except themselves, because they think that if they can place blame, they are not responsible for their own actions!

(a)              This is the approach that led city officials to fear the ACLU more than they feared God.

4.            What we need in our cities and in our churches today is preachers who will preach the Word of God without apology!

a.     They should preach it with anointing or go out and sell insurance!

(1)             I would dare say that a preacher who will not address the harshness and reality of sin, along with its horrible consequences, is not called to preach at all!

B.       7 LIES SATAN WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE

1.            Satan wants you to believe that God’s Word is not true.

a.     God told Adam and Eve not to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

b.     The consequence of disobedience was certain death.

(1)             Satan told Eve, however, “You will not surely die…instead, you’ll be like God, knowing good from evil.”

(2)             This appealed to Eve’s ego.

(a)              Listen to this Pastor: When someone appeals to your ego, they are trying to control you!

(b)             All of us need to know this – it is imperative that we do!

c.      Sin has three forms:

(1)             First, it is a “fascination.”

(2)             Second, it is a “form.”

(3)             Finally, it is a “fact.”

(a)              Sin is a fascination in the mind first!

(b)             Then it takes on a form – something or someone becomes the object of your desires.

(c)              And finally you find yourself involved in the “fact” (which is really the “ACT”).

d.     Adam and Eve rejected the truth of God’s Word and were driven out of the Garden; and an angel with a flaming sword guarded the entrance.

(1)             Because they believed Satan’s number one lie, they were cursed!

(a)              Adam was cursed by having to live “by the sweat of [his] brow.”

(b)             Eve was cursed by having to endure the “pain of childbirth.”

(c)              The serpent was cursed (as well as the ground, which suddenly became covered with thorns, thistles and weeds).

1)         WHY?

2)         Because, when you reject the truth of God’s Word, life becomes a living hell.

e.     Adam could have said, as so many people do today: “But God, I didn’t eat all of the fruit…I just took ONE bite!”

(1)             For some reason, people seem to think that the number of incidents of a sin makes a difference in the consequences.

(2)             They’ll say, “We only did it ONE TIME!”

(a)              Remember, friend, it only takes ONE cancer cell to destroy the whole body!

(b)             And sin is like a cancer…

1)         Either you defeat and destroy the sin in your life, or that sin will destroy your life.

a)     It only takes one snort of cocaine to become a cocaine addict!

b)    It only takes one incident of fornication to become pregnant or infected with a terrible disease like AIDS.

f.       Lot’s Wife was holding the hand of an angel and looked back just “one time,” and that one short glance cost that woman her life!

(1)             Just one glance!

(2)             Holding the hand of an angel!

(3)             Touching God, she lost out!

(a)              Listen, you can touch the very hand of God tonight, make a wrong decision tomorrow, and be lost!

(b)             Don’t let the devil convince you that God’s Word is not true or relevant to today.

g.     Believe it or not, there are some who would dare say that the Bible is not relevant to the times we live in.

(1)             That’s about like a gnat pulling up beside an eagle and saying, “Let me teach you how to fly.”

(2)             The Bible is far superior to the midget mentality that these people are trying to reason with.

(a)              Listen: The Bible does not need to get in step with society – with us…

(b)             We need to get in step and in tune with the Bible!

2.            The second lie that Satan wants you to believe is that “God will make an exception for you.”

a.     WRONG!

(1)             God never makes an exception for anybody when it comes to sin!

(2)             In Joshua 7:12, Israel could not stand before their enemies…

(a)              WHY?

(b)             Because Achan had taken a wedge of gold and a garment from the Babylonians when they were told not to take anything.

1)         Listen: It’s not different strokes for different folks when it comes to God and sin…

2)         Achan and his entire family were stoned to death because of Achan’s actions.

3.            The third lie Satan wants you to believe is that “you can’t be happy if you live the Christian life – if you live for God.”

a.     Let’s talk about “Happy…

b.     “Happy Hour” in the world is when a bunch of drunks cry on each other’s shoulders about their problems.

c.      You call that happy?

(1)             I’ll tell you what true happiness is…

(a)              Happiness is knowing that your sins or forgiven and forgotten by God!

(b)             Happiness is knowing that your name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life!

(c)              Happiness is the slate of your past being wiped clean in the Blood of Jesus and knowing that, because of this, you are on your way to heaven!

4.            The fourth lie that Satan wants you to believe is that there are “many ways to God.”

a.     We call it religion.

b.     Let me tell you about religion – religion is a curse!

(1)             Religion is a man-made effort to escape an encounter with Jesus Christ.

(2)             Because of RELIGION, in India cows are fat, rats are fat, and people are starving to death!

(a)              Now, concerning modern-day Christianity, there are those who would declare that going to heaven is like going to New York City – there are hundreds of ways to get there…

(b)             This is one of the biggest lies that Satan has devised for people today…

(c)              They believe that because their RELIGION carries the label of Christianity, they are automatically saved…

(d)             They purport that “we all have differing views of worship, but we all serve the same Jesus.”

1)         Ephesians 4:4-6 – There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

a)     There is not many ways to God; there is only ONE WAY to God.

b)    (Remember that old chorus we used to sing?)…

c)     One, One, One, ONE WAY TO GOD…

5.            The fifth lie that Satan wants you to believe is that your sin is your business…that you’re not hurting anyone but yourself.

a.     No so, according to Deuteronomy 5:9.

b.     In fact, the sins of the fathers will visit the children to the third and fourth generation.

(1)             LISTEN: What you do will affect your children, your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren!

(2)             FOUR GENERATIONS!

(3)             That’s 160 years!

(a)              But, with one trip to an altar of repentance, you can break the chain of curses and open the floodgates of blessing for your children and grandchildren…

III.              CLOSE

A.      TWO FINAL LIES THAT SATAN WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE…

1.            The SIXTH LIE that Satan wants you to believe is that there is no judgment day.

a.     But the writer of Hebrews informs us quite simply:

(1)             Hebrews 9:27 – It is appointed unto man once to die, after this the judgment.

2.            The seventh and final lie that Satan wants you to believe is that you have plenty of time.

a.     He wants you to believe that you have plenty of time to get right with God…

(1)             I’ve had folks tell me, “I know I need to get things right with God, but there are some things I need to do first…”

(a)              The Bible tells us in Proverbs 27:1 to, “Boast not thyself of the morrow, you know not what the morrow may bring.”

B.       ALTAR CALL

1.            What if tomorrow never comes for you?

2.            What if today were to be your last?

3.            In eternity, will you be meeting your Savior or your Judge?

4.            Don’t believe any more lies of the devil – give your life to the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

5.            Won’t you come?
