Awesome God

Deuteronomy 7:21 You shall not be terrified of them; for the Lord your God, the great and awesome God, is among you.

I. God is awesome

Deuteronomy 10:17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.

·        All these new religions and recycled ones, their gods they create, our God, big G is their God.

·        There was an article in last Sunday’s paper on page 2 about Pagans. They can create all the gods they want, they will still bow down to the true God.

II.  He does awesome things

Exodus 34:10 And He said: “Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among whom you are shall see the work of the Lord. For it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.

·        Not only creation. But “I will do marvels that have never been done.” What can God do? The better question is what can’t He do.

Psalms 66:1 To the Chief Musician. A Song. A Psalm. Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! 2 Sing out the honor of His name; Make His praise glorious. 3 Say to God, “How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You. 4 All the earth shall worship You And sing praises to You; They shall sing praises to Your name.” Selah 5 Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His doing toward the sons of men. 6 He turned the sea into dry land; They went through the river on foot. There we will rejoice in Him. 7 He rules by His power forever; His eyes observe the nations; Do not let the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah

·        Has he done anything awesome in your life? Should we say to people come and see the works of God, He is awesome?

Zephaniah 2:11 The Lord will be awesome to them, For He will reduce to nothing all the gods of the earth; People shall worship Him, Each one from his place, Indeed all the shores of the nations.

·        Let the pagans worship the Earth gods, let the environmentalists worship mother Earth, God will reduce them to nothing. But the Lord is awesome to us.

III.  His name is awesome. They knew it before they knew the name.

Psalms 99:1 The Lord reigns; Let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim; Let the earth be moved! 2 The Lord is great in Zion, And He is high above all the peoples. 3 Let them praise Your great and awesome name– He is holy.

Psalms 111:9 He has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name.

·        Have you ever seen anyone get excited over the Trinity? Have you seen people get in a frenzy over the titles father, son and Holy Spirit? But say the name of Jesus, things begin to stir, sing the name and eyes open wider and hearts pound faster, praise the name of Jesus and His Spirit flows through our midst. Because AWESOME IS HIS NAME!

·        The Jews couldn’t say it and now don’t know it, but knew it was awesome, we know it and say it, sing it, preach it, shout it, love it. — JESUS, JESUS, JESUS!!

III.  It is awesome to be in His presence

Genesis 28:16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” 17 And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven!”

·        Ever been to church and left feeling that way? How awesome is this place? Really it is not the place as much as it is the presence. We went to a Christian Concert last night and it was in the BNL gymnasium. And God was awesome there, but it was His presence that made it so.

·        The day of the Lord is coming. And it will be a great, terrible and awesome day.

·        Have someone read in NKJV Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

·        then someone read NKJV Acts 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

·        Jesus is coming very soon. It will be great or terrible, for you, but it will be awesome for everyone! Are you ready for the awesome day of the Lord? Why not come today and get ready?
