Fulfilling The Royal Law

TEXT: Lev 19:18, James 2:8, John 15:12, 1John 2:9-11

Lev 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

James 2:8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

1 John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

1 John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

1 John 2:11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

1.     Is in darkness=Is in spiritual darkness

2.     Walketh in darkness=Walking in spiritual darkness

3.     Knoweth not whither he goeth=Has no idea where his spiritual is going

4.     That darkness hath blinded his eyes=Has no idea that he is even in spiritual darkness

1 John 3:11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

1 Tim 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

WHO IS MY NEIGHBOR:

Neighbor=Nelson Dictionary: A friend, close associate, or a person who lives nearby

Jesus compared it even further as to strangers in the Parable of the Good Samaritan

AGAPE= agape is not that it is an unconditional love, but that it is primarily a love of the will rather than the emotions.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.

Agape love conveys God’s will to His children about their attitude toward one another. Love for one another was a proof to the world of true discipleship

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

CHURCH OF PHILADELPHIA:

Philadelphia=Brotherly Love

John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Rev 3:8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

·        In the Book of Revelation, John describes the church in Philadelphia as the faithful church and the church that stood at the gateway of a great opportunity

·         Christ said to this church, “See, I have set before you an open door and no one can shut it” (v. 8).

·        Philadelphia is known today as Alasehir, or Allah-shehr (“the city of God”).

FORGIVENESS:

Matt 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

Matt 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Matt 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Matt 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Col 3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Col 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye

ENEMIES:

Matt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Prov 25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

Rom 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

RESTORING YOUR BROTHER:

Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

James 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

James 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins

1.     We are to “receive one another” – Ro 15:7

4.     We are to “bear one another’s burdens” – Ga 6:1-2

5.     We are to be “forgiving one another” – Ep 4:32

6.     We are to be “submitting to one another” – Ep 5:21

7.     We are to “exhort one another” – He 3:12-13

8.     We are to “consider one another” – He 10:24-25

10.                        We are to “honor one another” – Rom 12:10

TRUE CHRISTIAN

1 John 4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

1 John 4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

·        Smile

·        Learn how to laugh at yourself

·        Be there for people

·        Call people

·        You need to be real in your heart that you want to be

·        Be courteous

·        Be a communicator

HATRED:

1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

Titus 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

QUOTES:

·        True friendship is seen through the heart not through the eyes

·        Many people will walk through our lives, but few will leave footprints on our hearts

·        Your friend is the one who knows all about you and still likes you

·        The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him your friend

·        A friend is someone who sees through you and still enjoys the view.

·        Prov 17:17 A friend loveth at all times

·        Prov 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

·        John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

TALKING ABOUT EACH OTHER:

Prov 15:4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Wholesome=Healing

Perverseness=Viciousness

Breach=Fracture

Best way to show that you love them is how you talk about them when there not there

Prov 11:13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

James 3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

We need to stop shooting down our brother/sisters (STORY ABOUT THE 4 BULLS)

Gal 5:15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

Col 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

SCRIPTURE:

1.     Heb 13:1 Let brotherly love continue.

2.     1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

3.     Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

4.     Rom 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law

5.     1 Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

7.     John 15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

8.     John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

9.     Ps 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

10.            Rom 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

11.            1 Thess 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

GOOD WORKS:

1 John 3:17 But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

1 John 3:18 Little children, let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them, and show it by our actions.

TLB

James 2:15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

James 2:16 If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

NIV

NO DIVISIONS

1 Cor 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

1 Cor 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

1 Cor 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

·        There should be no cliques within the church.

·        We should be reaching out to people within the church as well

Rom 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

·        A friend stabs you in the front and not in the back

·        Joined together=1Corin 1:10

·        Laborers together=1Corin 3:9

·        Helping together=2Corin 1:11

·        Workers together=2Corin 6:1

·        Quickened us together=Eph 2:5

·        Sit together=Eph 2:6

·        Builded together=Eph 2:22

·        Followers together=Phil 3:17

·        Knit together=Col 2:2

·        Caught up together=1Thes 4:17

·        Assembling of ourselves together=Heb 10:25

·        Heirs together=1Pet 3:7

1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

1 John 4:12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

ALTAR CALL:

Matt 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matt 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

Matt 5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
