Not enough to say “I’m a fundamentalist, Pentecostal, Christian.

The Court system basis on 2 factors:

1.     Person’s beliefs is a preference.

2.     or  is it a conviction.

Preference = To hold in high regard of esteem, to give priority to, to advance or promote.

Conviction = The state or condition of being convinced or fully awakened to awareness; under conviction of sin; A doctrine or a proposition which one believes. FIXED BELIEF.

Court said:

Preference is: A very strong belief you hold with great intensity and strength; you would go into full-time service due to a strong preference of your belief.  You would put all of your wealth into this.  You would become a minister, a passer, go out on every visitation. You would prostilite others into believing this. You would teach this to your children. You have tremendous belief and zeal for this belief;  BUT, under some circumstances you would change this belief.

Conviction: A belief you will not change!!! A man believes his life requires it of him.  It is God given, not a matter of requirement or dedication.  God demands it of you.

Church Splits – early 1900’s – people lost families, friends, jobs, because they followed their Godly Convictions.
