3 R’s Of God’s Way

1. RELINQUISHMENT

Ps 37:5

5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

COMMIT

galal (gaw-lal’); a primitive root; to roll (literally or figuratively):

KJV – commit, remove, roll (away, down, together), run down, seek occasion, trust, wallow.

derek (deh’-rek); from OT:1869; a road (as trodden); figuratively, a course of life or mode of action, often adverb:

KJV – along, away, because of, + by, conversation, custom, [east-] ward, journey, manner, passenger, through, toward, [high-] [path-] way [-side], whither [-soever].

A.    CHRISTIANS SOMETIME INSIST ON CLINGING TO OUR OWN WAYS. THIS WILL CAUSE A LACK OF SPIRITUAL VICTORY.

B.    IF WE ARE TO ENJOY GOD’S BEST, WE MUST YIELD OUR WAYS,

WILLS, WORK, AND WALK TO HIM.

Col 2:6

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

C.     TO WALK IN GOD’S WAY AND PLEASE HIM MEANS WE MUST TOTALLY COMMIT OUT TIME, TALENT, AND TREASURE TO HIM.

D.    WE SHOULD BE READY TO RELINQUISH ALL FOR GOD. TIME, MONEY, ETC;

2. RELIANCE

Ps 37:5b                                         trust also in him;

batach (baw-takh’); a primitive root; properly, to hide for refuge [but not so precipitately as OT:2620]; figuratively, to trust, be confident or sure:

KJV – be bold (confident, secure, sure), careless (one, woman), put confidence, (make to) hope, (put, make to) trust.

A.    WE OFTEN FAIL TO RELY ON THE LORD AS WE SHOULD.

B.    WE RELY ON DOCTORS, LAWYERS, OR FRIENDS.

C.     WE SHOULD RELY ON THE LORD WHOLY.

1 Thess 5:23

23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

D. GOD’S WAY IS ALWAYS RELIABLE.

Ps 37:40

40 And the LORD shall help them and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

3. REWARD

Ps 37:5c; and he shall bring it to pass.

James 4:15

15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

GOD SHALL REWARD US.

`asah (aw-saw’); a primitive root; to do or make, in the broadest sense and widest application (as follows):

KJV – accomplish, advance, appoint, apt, be at, become, bear, bestow, bring forth, bruise, be busy, X certainly, have the charge of, commit, deal (with), deck, + displease, do, (ready) dress (-ed), (put in) execute (-ion), exercise, fashion, + feast, [fighting-] man, + finish, fit, fly, follow, fulfill, furnish, gather, get, go about, govern, grant, great, + hinder, hold ([a feast]), X indeed, + be industrious, + journey, keep, labour, maintain, make, be meet, observe, be occupied, offer, + officer, pare, bring (come) to pass, perform, pracise, prepare, procure, provide, put, requite, X sacrifice, serve, set, shew, X sin, spend, X surely, take, X thoroughly, trim, X very, + vex, be [warr-] ior, work (-man), yield, use.

A.    GOD REWARDS THOSE WHO ARE TOTALLY COMMITTED TO HIM,

      WHO TRUST HIM TOTALLY.

Ps 37:6

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

KJV

Ps 37:6

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,

the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

NIV

B.    GOD REWARDS HIS CHILDREN BY ENABLING THEM TO BE A BLESSING TO OTHERS. WE SHOULD USE OUR INFLUENCE TO REACH OTHERS.

C.     GOD’S WAY IS BEST HE REWARDS IN THIS LIFE AND THE NEXT LIFE ETERNAL.

John 14:2

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
