The Blessed Man – The Blessings Of Fruitfulness – Part Six

Psalm 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

  • The first blessing that God ever bestowed upon a man was “be fruitful.”

Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

  • The Blessed Life is both vigorous and productive, because of its relationship to God.
  • God has given us His grace. It is expected of those who have been benefited by grace, to comply with the intentions of that grace which is: to bring forth fruit.
  • Barrenness, in its biblical context, was always considered to be a curse indicating that serious, unresolved problems existed in the lives of the barren.

Psalm 107:33-34

33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;

34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

Deuteronomy 7:12-14

12 Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:

13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

  • The Word of God is our foundation for fruitfulness. The Law of God is at the same time both soil and stream.
  • In one aspect, fastening a life to it brings stability. In the other aspect, refreshing and means of growth is provided.
  • The Word of God produces the growth that brings maturity. Maturity produces fruitfulness.

Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

  • The word “perfection” means completion, maturity or fruitfulness.
  • By loving fellowship with God and delighting in His law, the Blessed Man is made capable of doing well.

The character of the tree always determines the type and quality of the fruit.

Philippians 1:10-11

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

  • Read and Compare: 2 Peter 1:5-8 and Jude 1:11-12

2 Peter 1:5-8

5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jude 11-12

11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

  • The fruit cannot be different than the tree in quality, type, and character.

Matthew 7:16-20

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

  • A tree can be made good by transplanting it from the soil of self-will to that of delight in God’s Law.

Matthew 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

  • Our relationship with God helps fit our character to the season and sphere in which we live, enabling us to produce fruit. God creates each one of us to fit into a specific set of circumstances and to be able to influence a specific group of people in order to affect them for the Kingdom of God. He makes us fruitful according to the times and circumstances of our lives.
  • God has a right time and a right place for fruitfulness.

“that bringeth forth his fruit in his season…”  Psalm 1:3

  • The season may tarry, but it will come if we are faithful.

James 5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Galatians 6:9-10

9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

  • Expectation is never disappointed. If fruit is expected; fruit will be borne. He who prays, reads, and waits on God will learn to see:
  • The work that God has for him to do.
  • The power by which to do the work.
  • The times, places and opportunities that God provides for doing it.

Philippians 4:17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
