Strikes

Deuteronomy 19:15  One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

Exodus 12:13  For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the

lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

1 John 2:15-17  15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

OUR TEMPTATIONS

WHERE THEY STRIKE

ADAM & EVE (GENESIS 3)

JESUS CHRIST (LUKE 4)

Lust of the flesh

“the woman saw that the tree was good for food”

“command this stone that it be made bread”

Lust of the eyes

“and that it was pleasant to the eyes”

“If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine”

Pride of life

“and a tree to be desired to make one wise”

“If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence”

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 1Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.

STRIKE ONE: ______________________________

·         Repentance happens in my ____________________.

·         It applies the ____________________ of Christ to my life.

·         It strikes back against the “_____________________________”

Galatians 5:24 (NLT) Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

Romans 6:6-7 (NLT)  Our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.

STRIKE TWO: _____________________________

·         Baptism happens in my ____________________.

·         It applies the ____________________ of Christ to my life.

·         It strikes back against the “_____________________________”

Romans 6:4 (JER)  In other words, when we were baptized we went into the tomb with him and joined him in death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the Father’s glory, we too might live a new life.

Colossians 2:12 (LB)  For in baptism you see how your old, evil nature died with him and was buried with him; and then you came up out of death with him into a new life because you trusted the Word of the mighty God who raised Christ from the dead.

STRIKE THREE: ___________________________

·         Baptism happens in my ____________________.

·         It applies the ____________________ of Christ to my life.

·         It strikes back against the “_____________________________”

Romans 8:6-9 (NLT)  6 If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. 9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them are not Christians at all.)

Romans 8:16 (GN)  God’s Spirit joins himself to our spirits to declare that we are God’s children.
