When Will The Funeral End?

Mark 5: 22-23, 35-40

In our Scripture reading we read of a man called and Jarius, his name means he will enlighten, no doubt being a ruler of the synagogue he was one that was enlightened or heard about the teachings in miracles of Jesus.  But much more than just hearing about the miracles and teachings of Jesus, he believed them.  For in his time of distress he came to the master.  When the reality of his powerlessness hit him, when the ecclesiastical and legal machinery of the synagogue could not help him, he turned to the one that would be able to help him in that is Jesus.

His little daughters, his only daughter, age twelve years old was lying at the point of death and a funeral was being planned.  As he was walking back with Jesus, one of the servants came to him and said “thy daughter is dead.” The Greek records it this way “dead is thy daughter.”  It recorded it this way for the emphasis on the situation there was a funeral in progress.

But Jesus who knew all would bring peace and serenity to this distraught person.  Jesus said in Mark 5: 36 “be not afraid, only believe.”   When there is a cry from within for a move of GOD then Jesus will move.

Psalms 17: 1here the right, oh Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.”

Psalms 28: 1 “unto thee will I cry, oh Lord my rock, be not silent to me: lest if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.”

Psalms 34:15, 17 “the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.”  Verse 17 “the righteous cry, and the Lord heareth and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

When Jesus came to the house, Jesus saw confusion, and he saw some hired mourners [the professional saints].  Jesus said the damsel is not dead but sleeps and when Jesus said that, they laughed him to scorn.

The same word sleepeth is the same word that Jesus used in John Chapter 11: 11 when he was speaking about Lazarus.

Lazarus, Mary, Martha, they were friends of Jesus.  Lazarus was sick and so Mary and Martha called for Jesus, they told Jesus that Lazarus was sick please come, but Jesus delayed incoming.  When Lazarus died no doubt there was pain in Mary and Martha.  Sometimes we may wonder why love brings pain but as we look beyond the moment now we see that the pain will be returned into rejoicing when the funeral ends.  Jesus came and told them to roll the stone away [let us remember to remove the stone, required no miracle, just obedience] as we obey the HOLY Ghost he will move in our life.

Joshua 1: 8this book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success.”

James 1: 25but whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”

Martha said, Lord by this time stinketh for he has been dead for four days.  For corruption and decay sets in on the fourth day. No matter how much corruption or decay has set in or how deep in sin or how hard our heart is the funeral can end and new life can begin.

Lazarus came forth, and Jesus said loose him and let him go.  When the funeral comes to an end, there will be things that we lose and we let go.  For it’s time to come forth.

Jesus removed the mourners and the distracters out of Jarius’ house so that the funeral can come to the end.  Jesus needed quiet so he can become the master of the house.  For the funeral to come to an end in our life we need to remove the distractions. There needs to be quiet and peace so Jesus can become a master of our house.  Then, Jesus will tell that which is dead to arise because it’s time to arise and have new life.
