That Familiar Touch

Jeremiah 18:1-6 (NKJV)

18     The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: 2 “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.

5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!

The word Familiar means:

1: frequently seen or experienced: easily recognized

2: of everyday occurrence

Familiar Things:

Food, My wife’s voice, Noah’s voice, soon to be our new baby’s cry!

There are things that are familiar to all of us, but one thing above all else, must be familiar in our lives.

We must know without a shadow of a doubt, what the touch of God’s hand is.

·        To some, it is a strange and unfamiliar occurrence, but to the child of God, who has been filled with His Spirit, we must recognize the touch of God’s hand in our lives…

John 10:27 (NKJV)

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

God’s hand moves in many ways:

To protect:

Psalm 37:23-24 (NKJV)

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,

And He delights in his way.

24     Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;

For the Lord upholds him with His hand.

To correct:

Job 19:21 (NKJV)

“Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends,

For the hand of God has struck me!

It is mighty:

Joshua 4:24 (NKJV)

24 that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

It saves:

Isaiah 59:1 (NKJV)

59          Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened,

That it cannot save;

Nor His ear heavy,

That it cannot hear.

There is no touch like the Master’s Touch:

It healed the blind and the lepers; it brought comfort in the time of pain…

When God touches you, you will forever be changed:

Jacob – hip, Isaiah – lips, All of Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost

What we need in this world is the Hand of God to touch our lives again!

Our families, our jobs, our homes, everywhere we need the hand of God!

·        Through the mouth of Jeremiah, God spoke to His people and said, you are as clay in my hands…

Romans 9:21 (NKJV)

21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?

·        God is willing to make us into what He wants us to be…

·        It is by the hand of God, that we are pushed and shaped…

Through trials, problems, blessings

·        If we want to be a vessel of honor, then we must place ourselves upon the potter’s wheel…

This is done by prayer.

There are many that ask the questions, Where is the hand of God, What does it really feel like?

·        God is a spirit.  Spirits are not limited by bodies…

·        But, The Bible continually talks about “God’s hands”

How is this explained?

1 Corinthians 12:27 (NKJV)

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

We are the body of Christ. We are what the Bible refers to when in the New Testament it speaks of God’s hands.

Every purpose that God would use His hands for should be fulfilled by the Church.

Loving, Protecting, Delivering…

Nehemiah 2:18 (NKJV)

18 And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king’s words that he had spoken to me.

So they said, “Let us rise up and build.” Then they set their hands to this good work.

Nehemiah said, Because God’s hand is upon us, we are the extension of His hands, and what God wants to accomplish through us, is to rebuild the city!

I say to Harvest Church, because God’s hand is upon us, Let us rise up and build the kingdom of God!

·        Glove

o   Is useless, until someone places their hand inside of it!

God, put your hand in our lives!

We don’t want anything else leading us and guiding us and directing us!

We must feel that familiar touch!

Put me on your wheel right now, and let your hand mold me and make me!

Everyday of my life, I must feel that familiar touch!
