Claiming Our Covenant

I Chronicles 16:14 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.

15 Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations;

16 Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;

17 And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;

19 When ye were but few, even a few, and strangers in it.

20 And when they went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people;

Abraham’s Covenant:

Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

·        God first Said Abraham, get out of where you are

We must sometimes move before God will give us anything.

Max Lucado – “God loves you just the way you are, but he is not content to leave you that way.”

God said, Abraham, this is what I want to give you…

1)    I’m going to make you a great nation…

2)    I’m going to bless you…

3)    I’m going to make your name great…

4)    I’m going to make you a blessing to other people.

Sometimes we forget about this part of God’s covenant.

God has blessed us, so that we can bless others.

God reminded Abraham of this covenant in Genesis 15…

And again when Abraham was 90 years old in chapter 17…

·        God wants to remind His people of His covenant with them…

This covenant is an everlasting covenant! (Verse 17)

That covenant has been perpetuated…

“Even when you were but few.”

·        We may be small now, but we’ve got a covenant!”

God said I’m going to give you a land in which you are strangers.

Who exactly is the Bible talking about when it speaks of strangers?

Strangers consisted of:

The remnant of slaves that came out of Egypt

People of bondage

Captives taken in war

People whose lives were torn by the enemy

People who sought employment among the Jews

People who were searching for a better life

People who were searching for religious privileges

Those looking for religious truth

We are “Strangers” in this world.

I Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

This world is not my home.  I’m just a stranger passing through!

King David prospered everywhere he went.

He conquered nation after nation…

II Samuel 8:6 …And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

Why?  Because he had a covenant!

Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

We’ve got an everlasting covenant!

We must claim our inheritance!

Mended families, miracles, Revival…

God will give us the land of our inheritance!
