Choose Your Weapon!

Luke 22:35-42 (KJV)

35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing. 36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. 37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end. 38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. 40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

Matthew 26:41 (KJV)

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

·        We have a fight on our hands!

·        This battle has been raging since the beginning of Time.  It started in the Garden of Eden…

·        It is the battle between our flesh and God’s Spirit

·        Jesus said My Spirit is willing, but your flesh is weak.

·        We have so many aspirations of what we want to see happen in the kingdom of God…

·        But our greatest hindrance is not Satan.  It is our own selves!

Romans 7:18 (KJV)

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

·        This is what Jesus was trying to stress to us by what took place in the Garden of Gethsemane

·        His prayer exemplified the battle between flesh and spirit

o   He told Peter, James, and John, pray that ye enter not into temptation.

o   Then he prayed about his own flesh…  (Not my will, but Thine be done!)

·        It’s all about flesh and spirit.

·        The Bible says that the Garden of Gethsemane is where Jesus would retreat with his disciple oft times to pray.

·        Gethsemane was and oil press that was located at the foot of the Mount of Olives…

·        Oil has always represented the anointing of God…

·        The disciples were the most anointed men that have ever lived.  It was because Jesus taught them, that in order to win the battle of your flesh and my spirit, you’ve got to have a place to go to receive the anointing!

·        When the Lord returns after His victory at Armageddon, do you know where He’s going?

Zechariah 14:4 (KJV)

4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives…

·        If you want God to show up and fight your battles for you, you need to get to the Garden of anointing.

38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

·        There are some of you who I believe in the next few weeks, God is going to invite you in the Garden of anointing!

·        And it is there, that you will face a choice…  Two swords, but Jesus said IT is enough.  He made his choice!

·        The disciples were focusing on the physical, carnal weapon.  But Jesus had something else planned!

41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

·        The word “withdrawn” here literally meant – To unsheathe a sword for battle!

·        The disciples were ready to fight a spiritual battle with carnal weapons, but Jesus taught them the secret to winning the battle of the flesh and Spirit.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (KJV)

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds😉

·        But notice what happened, Peter didn’t get it…

Matthew 26:51-52 (KJV)

51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear. 52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

·        Peter made his decision in the garden of anointing to fight a spiritual battle with a carnal weapon.

·        And because of that Jesus turned to Peter and said, Get the behind me Satan, because he understood that is exactly what the Devil wants us to do is fight our battles with carnal weapons…

·        Jesus said they that take the sword will die by the sword!  If you live by carnality, then you will die by carnality!

·        But if you fight your battles with the spiritual weapons, Paul said that they are mighty enough to pull down Satan’s strongholds!

·        When Peter unsheathed his carnal weapon, Jesus said Peter you don’t need to do that.  Even though things may look like we’re loosing the battle here, I want to let you know that in the Garden of anointing, I’ve already fought this battle, and the good news is that we win!

36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

·        Jesus said that having this spiritual weapon was more important than being clothed!

·        Clothing is a very interesting topic in the Bible, especially relating to the battle of your flesh and God’s Spirit.

Ephesians 4:22-24 (KJV)

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

·        Why did Jesus say that a spiritual weapon is more important than your clothing?

·        In Biblical times, it was a shame and a reproach for someone to be unclothed.  That’s why they crucified Jesus naked.

·        I believe that Jesus was trying to teach us here, that He is sick and tired of our flesh covering and cloaking His Spirit that is within us!

·        God is looking for transparency!

Genesis 35:2 (KJV)

2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

Zechariah 3:1-4 (KJV)

1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. 2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. 4 And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.

·        I’ve come to declare to you tonight, It’s time for you to choose your weapon!
