Knowing God’s Will

I.  Once we are born again, we begin to view every aspect of our lives differently.

A.  Once we make Jesus Christ both Lord and King in our lives, we should desire to please             Him.

2 Peter 3:9

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

B.  The rate in which we are able to comprehend truth, and bring our lives in harmony with the      Spirit depends on our understanding of the will of God.

C.  First and foremost, we know what the will of God for everyone is:

II.  The whole purpose of Jesus taking on flesh and coming to Earth, was so we might have a relationship with Him.

A.  So humanity and deity could reunite in fellowship.

Romans 8:14

14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

B.  I believe God is excited about people who want to know His will.

C.  We need to learn to be led by the Spirit.

Ephesians 5:17

17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

III.  It is God’s desire for us to know His will.

IV.  Look at what the Apostle Paul wrote to the Colossian church:

Colossians 1:9-10

9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

A.  Paul’s desire was that the church would be filled with the knowledge…

1 Thessalonians 5:18

18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Romans 12:1-2

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

V.  Here is another scripture telling us what the will of God is:

A.  There is a way to know the will of God.

Romans 12:1-2

1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

VI.  Living in the will of God is not just trusting Him during major events in our lives, but living a life consecrated to Him and His desires every day.
