How To Argue With God…And Win!

Exodus 32:7-14

7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:

8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?  12 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

  1. The first thing we need to know before we can know how to argue with God and win is what is an argument.
  2. The exacting definition is: a coherent series of statements leading from a premise to a conclusion.

  1. An argument is NOT vain babblings.
  2. An argument begins with a premise.
  3. An idea, a thought, a goal.
  4. Then you form a series of coherent statements to form a conclusion.
  5. An argument is not always about anger and hurling atomic statements to hurt someone else.
  6. An argument does not have to be bombastic.
  7. An argument does not have to be a disagreement.
  8. Arguments are used to sway another individual’s idea, thought or action to align with                              your’s.

  1. Now, how to argue with God and win.
  2. God went to great trouble to free Israel from the bondage of Egypt.
  3. Water to blood, frogs, lice, flies, diseased cattle, boils, hail and fire, locusts, darkness, death of first born.
  4. I have condensed 6 chapters of the Bible covering the judgements of God.
  5. These severe judgements against Egypt were because the Egyptians did not want to let the people of God leave.
  6. They did not want to lose their slaves.
  7. From the deliverance of bondage, God brought Israel to the water.
  8. When they came to the Red Sea, they looked behind them and saw the Egyptians pursuing them.
  9. Everyone was afraid.
  10. The Israelites accused Moses of bringing them out to the wilderness just to die.

Exodus 14:13-14

13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

14 The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

  1. Look at the answer Moses gave:
  2. Moses stretched out his hand and rod over the Red Sea.
  3. The wind blew all night.
  4. The sea began to part.
  5. God was holding the Egyptians back with a pillar of fire.
  6. The crossing of the Red Sea is believed to have been ½ mile wide and 10 miles long.
  7. For 3,000,000 people to cross they needed to be lined up 1,000 deep by 3.000 long.
  8. Then, as they reached the other shore, the Lord removed the pillar of fire and allowed the Egyptians to follow.
  9. God took away the chariot wheels.
  10. Then the walls of water caved in on the enemy.
  11. No wonder Miriam and the women sang and danced and played tambourines.
  12. What awesome deliverance.
  13. Now, let’s jump forward to when God calls Moses up the mountain.
  14. This is where and when Moses received the layout for the tabernacle, tables of stone with 10 commandments, and other instructions.
  15. The people saw that it took a long time for Moses to come back down.
  16. According to Exodus 32:1-6, Aaron made a golden calf and Israel worshiped it.
  17. It was for this idolatry God was ready to destroy the people He just miraculously brought out of slavery.

Exodus 32:7-9

7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:

8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

  1. Moses begins arguing with God.
  2. I wonder what went through the mind of Moses when God declared He was going to destroy Israel.
  3. How can you win an argument against the omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God?
  4. Moses had a goal, a passion, and burden.

Exodus 32:11-13

  1. Moses reminded God of His promises!

Titus 1:1-2

Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

  1. God cannot lie.
  2. Therefore if He promises something….He will do it.

III.       If you want to win your arguments with God, you are going to have to know His promises.

2 Corinthians 1:20

20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

  1. If you need delivered from sin, addictions, or tormenting spirits:

Luke 4:18-21

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears

  1. If you need or want the Holy Ghost:

Acts 2:38-39

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

  1. If you need healing:

Mark 16:17-18

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

  1. If you need help:

Psalm 46:1

1  God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

  1. If you need mercy and forgiveness:

1 John 1:9

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  1. Whatever your need. Whatever your argument….win it with the Word!
  2. When you remind God of His promises….Has no choice but to concede the argument.
