Faith and Praise
Rev. Robert Ziriak

Psalm 27: 1-14

I. David’s faith relied on three things.

  • A. Gods personal dealings.
  • B. Gods past dealings.
  • C. Gods promised dealings.

II. David knew God in a personal intimate way.

  • A. He writes verse one as: the LORD is MY light and MY salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of MY life; of whom shall I be afraid?
    1. When God is our light and salvation, there is no need for fear.
    2. When God is the strength of our lives, all enemies to our souls are weak.
  • B. David knew the personal dealings of God.
    1. God delivered him from the lion and bear.
    2. God delivered him from Goliath.
    3. God anointed him king.
    4. God gave him victory after victory over the Philistines.
  • C. This is why he was able to write verses 2 & 3: ( Psalm 27:2-3 )
    1. When David said, “in this will I be confident.”, he was stating even though all this comes my way…I will still have faith in God.

II. Verse 4 is David’s expressed desire.

  • A. There is only one thing David desired…to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of his life.
    1. Deut 23:2 states an illegitimate son shall not enter into the congregation of the Lord, even to his tenth generation.
    2. Judah had incestuous relations with his daughter in law…Tamar.
    a. Matthew 1:3-6
    3. David was the curse breaker.
    4. David was the one to usher his family back into the congregation of the Lord. (reread verse four) (Psalm 27:5)
  • B. The beauty of verse 5 comes alive now!
    1. Pavilion means shelter, lair or dwelling.
    2. Secret is hiding place or place of protection.
    3. Setting up on a rock is getting us out of the way of harm. (Psalm 27:6)

III. Because of this unshakeable faith, it moved David to praise God.

  • Psalm 145:1-3

IV. It is those with faith that praise God.

  • A. The faithless are praiseless.
  • B. The praiseless are powerless.
  • C. The faithful are full of praise.
  • D. Those full of praise are powerful.
  • E. Faith will cause you to raise your hands.
  • F. Faith will cause you to clap etc…

V. Verse 13

  • A. David would have fainted unless he believed to see God’s goodness in this present life.

VI. Verse 14

  • A. Be of good courage. Be of good faith.
