No Other Gospel

Galatians 1

1Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)  2And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:  3Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,  4Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:  5To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

6I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.  9As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preaches any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Gospel:

yoo-ang-ghel’-ee-on

From the same as G2097; a good message, that is, the gospel:—gospel.

2097: yoo-ang-ghel-id’-zo

From G2095 and G32; to announce good news (“evangelize”) especially the gospel:—declare, bring (declare, show) glad (good) tidings, preach (the gospel).

The writer is referring to the Gospel or the good news of Jesus Christ.

The Gospel of Christ is designed to bring forgiveness of our sins and deliver us from this present evil world.

Paul marveled that there were some that had obeyed the Gospel and now were so soon removed from it.  These had been called into the Grace of Christ and now had been diverted unto another teaching which was not the true Gospel of Christ.

It is of utmost importance that we obey the correct teaching or Gospel of Christ.

Paul instructed these that had been miss-directed, those that had been miss-informed, that they had believed a perverted teaching or Gospel.

The Gospel of Christ is not a perverted one.

would pervert—Greek, “wish to pervert”; they could not really pervert the Gospel, though they could pervert Gospel professors.

There are those in our world today that bring into the Gospel teachings that are not a part of the Gospel. They teach things that are false and many are shortchanged and lack in their lives what the Gospel Divinely provides.

There were those that were bringing in O.T. rituals and endeavoring to make them a part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Many teach Salvation is obtained in various ways.

Acts 4:12-12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

According to this there is Salvation only in the Name of Jesus.

NIV–12Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

Jesus died on the cross to bring us Salvation.  Salvation is deliverance.  It is to reconcile man and God.

Without Salvation we are lost in darkness.  We are in a depraved state without the Salvation of Christ.  He came to seek and save that which was lost.

2 Peter 3: 9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Romans 2:4 4Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

What is the Gospel or Good News that saves or brings Salvation?

Luke 24: 44And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.  45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,  46And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:  47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  48And ye are witnesses of these things.  49And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

50And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.  51And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.  52And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:

Jesus again went over the words that He had already told His disciples earlier.

These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

He then opened their understanding that they might understand the scriptures.

He told them what was written about his suffering and resurrection. 47And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Also that He would send the promise of His Father upon them: but wait in Jerusalem until they would be endued with power from on high.

Let us look at the picture while they were waiting for the promise that Jesus said He was sending unto them.

 Acts 2

1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.  2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.  3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.  4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This is the fulfillment of the promise while they tarried in Jerusalem.

1.     They were all in one accord in one place at Jerusalem.

2.     2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind.

3.     It filled all the house where they were sitting.

4.     3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

5.       4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

This is a part of the fulfillment of what Jesus spoke unto them.

a.     They had received the promise.

b.     Now they must preach repentance and remission of sins in His name.

c.      It is to begin at Jerusalem.

As Peter spoke after the initial out pouring of the Promise, they realized that they were responsible for the crucifixion.

36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?  38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

a.     What shall we do?

b.     Note verse 38:

1.     Repent

2.     Be baptized in the name of Jesus.

3.     Ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

4.     The promise is for you.

5.     It is for your children.

6.     It is for those that are afar off even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

This is the Gospel that Paul said is not to be perverted.

If any would pervert this Good News, then let him be accursed.

Accursed:

 G331

?ν?θεμα

anathema

an-ath’-em-ah

From G394; a (religious) ban or (concretely) excommunicated (thing or person):—accursed, anathema, curse, X great.

A perverted teaching concerning the gospel is to be banned.  Those that teach a perverted Gospel are to be excommunicated.

The reason is that a perverted teaching does not bring true salvation.  Only a true salvation can get you into heaven.
