Holy Ghost Series – Part 1

INTRO:

Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The day of Pentecost = ONE OF THE MOST AWESOME DAYS IN HISTORY!

Isaiah 43:18-19 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, [and] rivers in the desert.

There have been so many twisted ideas = THAT NEED CLARIFICATION!

WE ARE GOING TO STUDY THE WORKING OF GOD’S SPIRIT IN OUR LIFE!

LET US BEGIN TALKING ABOUT OUR CONCEPT OF GOD

John 4:22-24 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth.

Most people believe there is some sort of God (higher power)

Many worship, they know not what! IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND!

THE BIBLE PLAINLY TELLS US WHO GOD IS.

– He is progressively Revealed

O.T. = Jehovah / N.T. = Jesus Christ (He is Spirit)

HE IS ALSO CONSISTENT! Mal 3:6 For I [am] the LORD, I change not;…

However, God did reveal himself in various ways for RELATIONSHIP!

Desiring to redeem mankind, God clothed himself in flesh = lamb

O.T. = God is Spirit – Therefore, he used = T h e o p h a n i e s

( temporary visible forms )

Genesis 18:1-2 And the LORD appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

18:22 And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD.

In the O.T., there was never any confusion concerning God (in Jews)

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

MOST OTHERS (in those days) WERE POLYTHEISTIC = (multiple Gods)

N.T. PERSPECTIVE: The following are synonymous terms

Holy Ghost, Holy Spirit, Spirit of Christ etc…

DON’T BE CONFUSED BY (spirit) & ( ghosts) Both are the same

GREEK: = “Pneuma” “wind, breath, current of air”

II Corinthians 5:18-19 And all things [are] of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

GOD, WHO IS SPIRIT = WAS IN CHRIST! (Jesus was God incarnate)

—- Incarnate = “to represent in bodily form”

When Jesus Died on cross (flesh) — God’s Spirit left for 3 days

WHERE DID HE GO?

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Mark 14:58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. = THE GREAT CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST!

Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I [am] he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. << I’m alive & I have the keys! >>

JESUS WHIPPED SATAN FOR THE KEYS – GAVE THEM TO PETER AT PENTECOST!

Then God’s Spirit filled humanity! === (WHAT A DAY)

TRACE IT FROM GENESIS TO REVELATION ( 1st page to the last )

Genesis 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. *** ONE AWESOME, UNCHANGING, ETERNAL GOD!

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. —> not moody

WHAT HE WAS THEN, HE IS NOW, WHAT HE IS NOW, HE WILL BE TOMORROW!

ONCE YOU UNDERSTAND THE UNCHANGING ESSENCE OF GOD, you’re not confused by TERMS the Bible uses to DESCRIBE God!

>>> YOU CANNOT PRESUME THAT REFERENCES TO H.G IS ANOTHER DEITY! <<<

The Jewish nation had every prophecy at their disposal, yet rejected the Messiah!

BUT HE WAS STILL THE CHRIST! =

Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

I Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

FOR GOD TO BE IN CHRIST = MEANT THE HOLY GHOST HAD TO BE IN CHRIST

–> And the only way Christ could have died, was for Spirit to leave the body.

POINT : —> Jesus was not one person in another person

( simply God in Flesh )

DIVINITY – wrapped in HUMANITY = What a wonderful mystery revealed

Romans 16:25-27 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: To God only wise, [be] glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.

THE MAN CHRIST JESUS WAS FATHERED BY THE HOLY GHOST…

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

1:20 …that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (Spirit)

Let me share with you a fact… Matthew was wriiten after Pentecost

John 7:38-39 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet [given]; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

HOW – could Jesus say H.G. was not given, when H.G. overshadowed Mary

SIMPLE: This was simply a term referencing the Pentecostal Experience!

(not referring to the essence of God) GOD’S SPIRIT HAS ALWAYS BEEN!

WOMAN :changes name at wedding, Is Called Aunt, wife, mother, sister

NEVER CHANGES WHO SHE IS! ( DESIGNATION reflect RELATIONSHIPS )

***** We should be no more confused about (titles) of God then we do

when a woman gets married.

·        1 TIM 2:5 = There is one God

·        Eph 4:4 = There is one Spirit

·        Eph 4:5 = There is one Lord

·        Acs 4:24 = The Lord is God

·        Joh 4:24 = God is a Spirit

·        2CO 3:17 = The Lord is that Spirit

·        Acs 9:5 = And That Lord is JESUS

Acts 9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: [it is] hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

The Spirit, Lord, God, Father, Son, H.G., ==> ALL THE SAME 1 GOD!

Father, Son & H.G. are mentioned frequently…

= GOD HAD THREE FUNCTIONS = NOT PERSONALITIES

To personalize each function or role IS VERY CLOSE TO POLYTHEISM!

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Hebrews 1:1-3 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

—> THE ROLE OF THE SON IS NOW GLORIFIED AS THE FATHER OF OLD <—

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

SO THEN, *** WHO IS THE H.G. ? = J E S U S ! -> NOW WHAT?

WE NO LONGER LOOK FOR HIM IN THE TEMPLE ====> WE LOOK IN PEOPLE!

I Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
