To surrender is the only answer
Rev. Darrell Blackwell

2 Chronicles 30
1And Hezekiah sent to all Israel and Judah, and wrote letters also to Ephraim and Manasseh, that they should come to the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, to keep the passover unto the LORD God of Israel. 2For the king had taken counsel, and his princes, and all the congregation in Jerusalem, to keep the passover in the second month. 3For they could not keep it at that time, because the priests had not sanctified themselves sufficiently, neither had the people gathered themselves together to Jerusalem. 4And the thing pleased the king and all the congregation. 5So they established a decree to make proclamation throughout all Israel, from Beersheba even to Dan, that they should come to keep the passover unto the LORD God of Israel at Jerusalem: for they had not done it of a long time in such sort as it was written. 6So the posts went with the letters from the king and his princes throughout all Israel and Judah, and according to the commandment of the king, saying, Ye children of Israel, turn again unto the LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, and he will return to the remnant of you, that are escaped out of the hand of the kings of Assyria. 7And be not ye like your fathers, and like your brethren, which trespassed against the LORD God of their fathers, who therefore gave them up to desolation, as ye see. 8Now be ye not stiffnecked, as your fathers were, but yield yourselves unto the LORD, and enter into his sanctuary, which he hath sanctified for ever: and serve the LORD your God, that the fierceness of his wrath may turn away from you. 9For if ye turn again unto the LORD, your brethren and your children shall find compassion before them that lead them captive, so that they shall come again into this land: for the LORD your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn away his face from you, if ye return unto him. 10So the posts passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh even unto Zebulun: but they laughed them to scorn, and mocked them. 11Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem. 12Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, by the word of the LORD.

Surrender- To deliver up; to yield to another; to resign; to relinquish;

Romans 6: 13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
16Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
19I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

  • I desire to speak to each one of us concerning the subject of surrendering. We live in an era that is fast paced. There is always something vying for our time and energies and what ever can be pulled from us. Hezekiah told the people that they needed to yield themselves unto the Lord and not to be stiff-necked as their fathers were. . He encouraged them to return unto the Lord. If they would do this, their brethren and children would find compassion. God said that He would bless them, but it involved surrender.
  • God is going to bless the individual that will surrender their will over to the will of God.
  • The Lord is seeking for surrendered vessels.

Jeremiah 18
1The wordH1697 whichH834 cameH1961 to JeremiahH3414 from the LORDH3068, sayingH559,
2AriseH6965, and goH3381 downH3381 to the potter’sH3335 houseH1004, and thereH8033 I will cause thee to hearH8085 my wordsH1697.
3Then I wentH3381 downH3381 to the potter’sH3335 houseH1004, and, beholdH2009, he wroughtH6213 a workH4399 onH5921 the wheelsH70.
4And the vesselH3627 that he madeH6213 of clayH2563 was marredH7843 in the handH3027 of the potterH3335: so he madeH6213 it againH7725 anotherH312 vesselH3627, as seemedH5869 goodH3474 to the potterH3335 to makeH6213 it.

  • We find Jeremiah is instructed to go down to the Potters house. What Jeremiah found out was that the Potter returned the clay to make another vessel because of the one being marred. The Potter’s goal was to make a good vessel and he worked hard at it.
  • The problem was not with the Potter not making a good vessel, because he was doing the best that he could. The vessel being marred was the result of not being yielded to the Potter.
  • God desires to make you and me good vessels that can be displayed in His kingdom. Many times He has worked overtime in order to make us vessels of honor, only to take us back to the wheel because of being marred. The problem is not with the Potter but with the clay. The clay will not yield itself in the way that it should. If the clay was totally surrendered to the Potter, it could be made a useable vessel.
  • God is looking for the individual that will not show Him resistance. One that will allow Him to shape and mold their life in the way that He chooses that it can be profitable for the Kingdom.
  • You can not be as the clay and expect to go heaven. The clay that resists has to be made another vessel because of it being marred. When you and me have resistance to what God desires to do in our lives leaves it a marred vessel. It is a vessel that is not totally yielded. How can we think God is pleased with us when we will not surrender and allow Him to have complete control over us and our affairs?
  • Is the vessel not marred when we are not obedient unto the Lord? When we refuse to obey the word of God, is there not resistance unto the will of God? When we refuse to comply with His desires, will he not need to take us back to the wheel and crush us again?
  • Why is it so hard for you to relinquish your will to the will of God? According to the word of God a person is stiff-necked when they will not yield unto God.
  • Samson, a man called and anointed of God walked in his own way and willed to do his own thing. He was warned about becoming a friend with the Philistines but resisted the word of God. He became one that played games with the call of God on his life and eventually lost his sight. He lost his sight when he lost his power. The reason he lost his power was that he resisted the Potter. Samson would not surrender to the will of God.
  • Samson yielded to unrighteousness and became a weapon or an instrument of such. Samson was not surrendered unto God.
  • God desires you and me to be free from sin. Sin in our lives is what brings resistance to righteousness. Therefore that person becomes a servant of unrighteousness.

Acts 5
1But a certainG5100 manG435 namedG3686 AnaniasG367, with SapphiraG4551 his wifeG1135, soldG4453 a possessionG2933,
2And keptG3557 backG3557 part of the priceG5092, his wifeG1135 alsoG2532 being privyG4894 to it, and broughtG5342 a certainG5100 partG3313, and laidG5087 it, atG3844 the apostles’G652 feetG4228.
3But PeterG4074 saidG2036, AnaniasG367, whyG1302 hath SatanG4567 filledG4137 thineG4675 heartG2588 to lieG5574 to the HolyG40 GhostG4151, and to keepG3557 backG3557 part of the priceG5092 of the landG5564?
4Whiles it remainedG3306, was it not thineG4671 own? and after it was soldG4097, was it not in thineG3588-G4674 own powerG1849? whyG5101 hast thou conceivedG5087 thisG5124 thingG4229 in thineG4675 heartG2588? thou hast not liedG5574 unto menG444, but unto GodG2316.
5And AnaniasG367 hearingG191 theseG5128 wordsG3056 fellG4098 down, and gave up the ghostG1634: and greatG3173 fearG5401 cameG1096 onG1909 allG3956 them that heardG191 theseG5023 things.
6And the youngG3501 men aroseG450, woundG4958 him up, and carriedG1627 him out, and buriedG2290 him.
7And it was aboutG5613 the spaceG1292 of threeG5140 hoursG5610 after, when his wifeG1135, not knowingG1492 whatG3588 was doneG1096, cameG1525 in.
8And PeterG4074 answeredG611 unto her, TellG2036 me whetherG1487 ye soldG591 the landG5564 for soG5118 muchG5118? And she saidG2036, YeaG3483, for soG5118 muchG5118.
9ThenG1161 PeterG4074 saidG2036 unto her, HowG5101 is it that ye have agreedG4856 togetherG4856 to temptG3985 the SpiritG4151 of the LordG2962? beholdG2400, the feetG4228 of them which have buriedG2290 thy husbandG435 are atG1909 the doorG2374, and shall carryG1627 thee out.
10ThenG1161 fellG4098 she down straightwayG3916 atG3844 his feetG4228, and yieldedG1634 up the ghostG1634: and the youngG3495 menG3495 cameG1525 in, and foundG2147 her deadG3498, and, carryingG1627 her forthG1627, buriedG2290 her by her husbandG435.

  • We find these people were not pliable. There was resistance in their lives concerning their money. They were not yielded completely unto the Lord. We find in these vessels that which could not be made another vessel. No doubt God took them back to the wheel of molding, but because the resistance was so strong against his hands, he discarded them from the kingdom.

Psalms 51
1To the chiefH5329 MusicianH5329, A PsalmH4210 of DavidH1732, when NathanH5416 the prophetH5030 cameH935 unto him, afterH834 he had goneH935 in to BathshebaH1339. Have mercyH2603 upon me, O GodH430, according to thy lovingkindnessH2617: according unto the multitudeH7230 of thy tender merciesH7356 blotH4229 out my transgressionsH6588.
2WashH3526 me thoroughlyH7235 from mine iniquityH5771, and cleanseH5352 me from my sinH2403.
3For I acknowledgeH3045 my transgressionsH6588: and my sinH2403 is everH8548 beforeH5048 me.
4Against thee, thee onlyH905, have I sinnedH2398, and doneH6213 thisH2063 evilH7451 in thy sightH5869: that thou mightest be justifiedH6663 when thou speakestH1696, and be clearH2135 when thou judgestH8199.
5BeholdH2005, I was shapenH2342 in iniquityH5771, and in sinH2399 did my motherH517 conceiveH3179 me.
6BeholdH2005, thou desirestH2654 truthH571 in the inwardH2910 parts: and in the hiddenH5640 part thou shalt make me to knowH3045 wisdomH2451.
7PurgeH2398 me with hyssopH231, and I shall be cleanH2891: washH3526 me, and I shall be whiterH3835 than snowH7950.
8Make me to hearH8085 joyH8342 and gladnessH8057; that the bonesH6106 which thou hast brokenH1794 may rejoiceH1523.
9HideH5641 thy faceH6440 from my sinsH2399, and blotH4229 out allH3605 mine iniquitiesH5771.
10CreateH1254 in me a cleanH2889 heartH3820, O GodH430; and renewH2318 a rightH3559 spiritH7307 withinH7130 me.
11CastH7993 me not away from thy presenceH6440; and takeH3947 not thy holyH6944 spiritH7307 from me.
12RestoreH7725 unto me the joyH8342 of thy salvationH3468; and upholdH5564 me with thy freeH5081 spiritH7307.
13Then will I
teachH3925 transgressorsH6586 thy waysH1870; and sinnersH2400 shall be convertedH7725 unto thee.

  • David was willing to allow God to do what it took that he might be the vessel that God wanted him to be.
  • We find David on the Potters wheel yielding to the hands of the Potter. He was saying I surrender all; I surrender all, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
  • Is there one here that needs to allow God to take you back to the wheel and create you another vessel? You will need to surrender and allow yourself to be pliable in the hands of the Lord Jesus. You need to surrender your will to the will of God. Some of you need to repent and become obedient to God. Quit resisting what His word has instructed you to do.
  • Yield your life unto Him and quit resisting what you know you need to be doing.
  • You need to come to this Altar and surrender. Fall at His feet and surrender your all. It will be the best.
  • Then and only then can you find rest for your souls.
  • I SURRENDER ALL.
