The Need For A Drunk Church

Acts 2:14-21

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Ephes. 5:18

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Pentecost is known for its lively and demonstrative worship. We believe in worshipping in spirit and in truth.

John 4:23-24

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

We don’t just worship in spirit but also in the truth. True worshippers not only worship in spirit but they also know the truth.

John 8:32

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Thank God for truth! We have a reason to worship.

We believe in worshipping God according to the dictates of your own heart.

Whether it is expressed in clapping, running, shouting, dancing, raising your hands, running or rolling on the floor, when it is comes from the heart and is done as unto the Lord God accepts it as worship.

You see it is not so important how you worship as much as it is that you worship. What really matters is that you worship. God loves worship. He seeks worship. You were created to worship. You were raised to praise.

Psalm 150:1-6

Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 2Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. 4Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. 5Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. 6Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. God inhabits the praises of His people. When the praises go up the glory will come down. Where there is praise you will find God.

2 Cor. 3:17

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

There is power in praise. His power is demonstrated in an atmosphere of praise and worship. Miracles happen while praise is going up.

A Pastor announced that there would be no more spontaneous worship. No more hand clapping, no more shouting, no more running. You might as well write Ichabod over the front door. You had better not tamper with worship. Leave it alone. If worship bothers you then you need to go join one of those cold churches. We need a revival of demonstrative worship. If we were arrested for being “holy rollers” there wouldn’t be enough evidence to convict us. It’s time to worship God like never before.

Esther 1:3-8

In the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him: 4When he shewed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even an hundred and fourscore days. 5And when these days were expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace; 6Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble. 7And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king. 8And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man’s pleasure.

The king gave a big party. It lasted 180 days. The guests were given royal wine in vessels of gold. They were not compelled to drink wine they had to want it. They were offered as much as they wanted.

It was in an upper room in Jerusalem that God poured out His Spirit upon man. He told his followers to wait until it happened. Wait for the promise that I made through Joel a long time ago.

Joel 2:28

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

God said I’m going to open the winery of heaven. I’m going to let people taste the new wine. They can taste and see the exceeding riches of my grace and glory. They drank from the cup until they got drunk. They came staggering out of the upper room and the crowd accused them of being drunk.

Acts 2:13

Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

Peter said, “These are not drunk as you suppose. It’s only 9:00 AM. The liquor store is not even open. We just been up in Joel’s Place and we are drunk all right but it’s not like you think. We are drunk on the Holy Ghost!

There is nothing like it. It will make you happy and there is no hangover. It’s free and it will never run out. You can have all you want. Anybody and everybody can have some.

Acts 2:38-39

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Ephes. 5:18

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Leave Jack Daniels and Budweiser alone but when it comes to this new wine go crazy with it. Get drunk on the Holy Ghost.

We need a drunk church. The world needs to see a drunk church.

Americans spend millions and millions on alcoholic beverages every year. Many people drink casually and many are alcoholics. Alcohol is responsible for wrecked marriages, ruined careers, suffering children, car wrecks, misery, death and disease. Christians don’t mess with it. We have switched over to the new wine. We are still drinking but not alcohol.

We need to get drunk. We need a drunk church. If we had a drunk church we wouldn’t have so many drunk people. We need some drunk singers, some drunk musicians, some drunk ushers, some drunk teachers, some drunk deacons, and some drunk preachers. You want to know why there are so many troubled people in our churches. You haven’t been drunk in a while. The reason some can sit quiet and still in the midst of a move of God is they haven’t had a good shot of the Holy Ghost in while. You need to get a fifth of joy. You need to get drunk.

Look at the characteristics of a drunk man.

A drunk man never gets enough. He is never satisfied with a few sips.

He always wants some more. The church has too many nippers. If you ever get drunk enough on the Spirit you will love your enemies. You will quit gossiping and talking about people. The more you drink the more you want. Some folks leave church coming back and some arrive going home. If you ever get drunk you can’t wait for the next service.

A drunk man doesn’t feel pain. (Man with street sign pole stuck through his body. He felt no pain.)

When you get drunk enough nobody can hurt you. I can laugh while you’re talking about me. The mean things that you say don’t even bother me. I’m always having a happy hour. Lie about me. Talk about me. I’m too drunk to worry about you.

A drunk man is not choosy.

If you get drunk enough you won’t have a favorite preacher, choir, singer. Some of you won’t worship unless it’s your song or singer. If you ever get drunk enough it won’t matter who sings or who preaches.

A drunk man is noisy. He is obnoxious.

When your drunk you’re not yourself. You’re under the influence of something else. I can’t help myself. I run, shout, cry, and dance because I’m drunk.

Psalm 95:1

O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

Psalm 98:4

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.

This is a noisy crowd. We are loud because we are drunk and we don’t smell like liquor.

A drunk man looks like a drunk, smells like a drunk, walks like a drunk and talks like drunk.

If your saved you ought to look like it, talk like it, smell like one. The Holy Ghost will change your appearance. If you are saved people will know it. If liquor will change a mans appearance so will the Holy Ghost.

A drunk man is brave. He will take on anything. Get a rat full of liquor and he will jump a cat! If you get drunk on the Holy Ghost you will do things you thought you couldn’t do. Get drunk enough and you can tackle things you never thought you could tackle. You can’t embarrass a drunk man.

Too many are too timid, shy and embarrassed. You need to get drunk.

A drunk man doesn’t care what other people think about him.

Some of you got to much pride. You can’t shout, you can’t pray, you can’t get blessed because your too worried about what people will think.

A drunk man will stay out all night. He knows he has to go to work the next morning but he will do it anyway.

If you get drunk you won’t run out of church the first chance you get. You won’t run to the door you will run to the altar.

The world goes to the bars, nightclubs, joints, dens and dives in order to drink their problems away. Drown your problems in alcohol. What you need to do is come on over to Joel’s Place and drink some new wine. It will solve your problems. It will help you. You can leave your worries and troubles behind. We need a drunk church.

Titus 3:5

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
