The Three Minds Of Man |
ROMANS 8:6 – “FOR TO BE CARNALLY MINDED IS DEATH; BUT TO BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED IS LIFE AND PEACE.”
I. THE CARNAL MIND The very essence of a carnal mind is that of the flesh. To be carnal minded means one is fleshly minded, and, therefore means one caters to the desires of the flesh. * “The carnal (or fleshly) mind is death.” There is absolutely nothing in it that is pleasing to God! (see also Rom. 8:7; Ps.94:1; Prov.15:26; Rom. 1:28). NOTE: HE THAT SOWS TO THIS FLESHLY MIND SHALL REAP CORRUPTION, THE Notice: The carnal mind is not death in a passive sense – for it is even worse than that – … …it is “enmity against God,” and so very bitter that IT (the carnal mind) cannot possibly be subject to the law of God (v.7) * A corrupt tree cannot bring forth good fruit (see also Titus 1:15) REMEMBER: THE ONLY CURE FOR A CARNAL MIND IS CRUCIFIXION. “To be spiritually minded is life and peace.” * It is the evidence of a great change. Life and peace are the results of this new spirit-creation. NOTE: THE SPIRITUAL MIND IS A MIND ILLUMINATED BY THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, YOU are alive to God and His will, and thus your physical members are yielded to Him as instruments of righteousness. REMEMBER – IT IS THE GOOD TREE THAT CANNOT BRING FORTH EVIL FRUIT III. THE MIND OF CHRIST “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 2:5) NOTE: TO BE A CHRISTIAN MEANS LITERALLY TO BE LIKE CHRIST. THEREFORE, WE MUST STRIVE TO HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST. HIS MIND WAS: 1. A LOWLY MIND (MAT. 11:29; JOHN 13:4,5). 2. A PURE MIND (LUKE 22:61; I PETER 2:22). 3. A STRONG MIND (HEBREWS 12:3; MAT. 4:10). 4. A FRUITFUL MIND (MATTHEW 4:7; JOHN 8:29; I PETER 2:23). 5. AN UNSELFISH MIND (ROM. 15:8; JN. 11:35; I PT. 2:23). 6. A PRAYERFUL MIND (LUKE 6:12; JOHN 17). 7. A LOVING MIND (LUKE 23:34; EPHESIANS 5:2). LET THIS MIND BE IN YOU! |
