These Signs Shall Follow Them That Believe

Part 2

Who began the teaching of the in-filling

of the Holy Ghost?

Jesus did!

(Mark 16:17 KJV)  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;   (‘Glossa’ – Greek, “Language that was not learned naturally.)

(Mark 16:18 KJV)  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Jesus taught that believers would be filled with

 the Holy Spirit.

(John 7:37 KJV)  In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

(John 7:38 KJV)  He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

(John 7:39 KJV)  (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Jesus declared this to be necessary in order for the believer to enter into the Kingdom of God!

(John 3:5 KJV)  Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

Jesus told them they would be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

{Immersed as in water baptism}

(Acts 1:4 KJV)  And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

(Acts 1:5 KJV)  For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Ø        Many believers do not do this.

Ø        They feel a little bit of God in repentance and then run out thinking that this is all there is to their Christian experience.

This “Baptism” of the Holy Ghost was experienced

10 days later on the day of Pentecost.

First of all who was there?

Ø        Mary the mother of Jesus.

Ø        His brethren

Ø        His disciples

Ø        and others totaling around 120.

Second what were they doing?

Ø        Praying and in supplication {Supplication means requesting, petitioning.} in one accord.

Ø        Praying for what?  The Holy Ghost that Jesus promised them in Acts 1:5

Thirdly what happened to them on the day of Pentecost?

(Acts 2:1 KJV)  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

(Acts 2:2 KJV)  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

(Acts 2:3 KJV)  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

(Acts 2:4 KJV)  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. {a language not learned naturally!}

Ø        The word “and” was added by the King James translators to give completion to the sentence in English.  However, this was not necessary in the original Greek in which this text was originally written.

Ø        It is used to join the “in filling of the Holy Ghost” with “speaking with other tongues” as one event.
