Reality

Text:  Ecclesiastes 9:8-11

Reality – The state of the world as it really is rather than as you might want it to be.

I. Reality based shows

A. Big brother 2000

1. 10 people put together in one house for about 90 days

a. This is crazy, not reality

B. Survivor

1. 16 people together on a island to see who will be the last one

2. Someone was asked if they were going to watch Survivor or the GOP political convention. They responded that they would probably watch Survivor, at least it is suppose to be based on reality.

II. Virtual reality – A hypothetical three-dimensional visual world created by a computer; user wears special goggles and fiber optic gloves etc., and can enter and move about in this world and interact with objects as if inside it

III. Hollywood reality – This idea is to sell what we wish life was all about, a world so much different then reality. Macho men, model women, unreal ability, perfect endings.

IV. In this life

Ecclesiastes 9:8-11

Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment. 9Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. 10Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

11I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

V. Our only hope

I Corinthians 15:19-28

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. 21For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming. 24Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. 25For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. 26The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. 27For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. 28And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
