The Right of Redemption

Jeremiah 32:6-9, 14

6 And Jeremiah said, The word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

7 Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum thine uncle shall come unto thee saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for the right of redemption is thine to buy it.

8 So Hanameel mine uncle’s son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the Lord, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.

9 And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle’s son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver…

14 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.

1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

I work in the mortgage business and it’s pretty hard these days to get a loan for a home, because of the crash in the housing market.

What happened was, banks and mortgage brokers were giving loans to people, knowing that they didn’t have the evidence of being able to pay it back.

This resulted in thousands, upon thousands of homes being taken back from people, because of their lack of being able to pay the mortgage.

People lost it all, because they couldn’t pay the price.

The price of sin is high, and we don’t have the ability to pay it. Because of sin, our lives are in debt and the devil is holding the note.

Sin is a debt that the devil is debt collector.

He loves to remind us, just like the debt collector that calls you all the time.

He is the accuser of our soul.

Why do we have to deal with this sin issue? Because man brought sin into the middle of Gods perfect plan.

Did you ever wonder why God made Man when He knew that man was going to mess up His perfect plan?

A better question, why did God make the earth and everything else?

I know that I am not the first person to ask that.

Psalm 8:3-4

3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

See, I’m not the only one.

It wasn’t because He needed us…

Don’t believe me? Look.

Acts 17:24-25

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

He didn’t need us, he already had plenty of company; He had the Heavenly Host.

He didn’t make us to worship Him for His ego to be fed.

God is totally secure in who He is without us; He’s God.

God doesn’t have any needs that haven’t been met.

He is sufficient all by Himself.

God does not need humanity, but humanity needs God.

Acts 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

God loved mankind even before He created us.

Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

Of all of His creation, we are God’s greatest achievement.

We were created to serve God and be obedient to God, but our obedience is more important than our service.

I know I may be messing with someone’s revelation right now.

1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

If we obey, our service to God will be a natural product of the relationship with God.

Ever tell a child not to touch something that is hot?

What do they do? They go touch it!

Try telling them to be quiet.

What do they do? they get louder!

You don’t have to teach disobedience, it comes naturally.

Man didn’t sin because the snake told them to sin

Man sinned because He disobeyed God.

Now, every one of us is born with a sin issue.

Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

And if that wasn’t bad enough

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Now that I have everyone depressed and feeling hopeless. I want to give you hope this morning.

The greatest Plan B was put into action the minute Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, it was the right of redemption.

There is something called “The right of redemption” when it comes to real estate property.

It states that it is the right of the debtor, whose property has been taken away and sold, the original owner can get his property back only if they are able to come up with the money to repay the amount of the debt.

Let me tell you about Plan B:

After Adam and Eve had sinned, God still went to the Garden to see them.

Their sin had separated them from the presence of God, but that didn’t stop God from wanting to see them.

Adam and Eve hid, but God went looking for them.

He had Grace and mercy on His mind when he called for them.

Grace and mercy was on God’s mind, even after sin entered into the garden.

God knew that His plan of redemption had just been activated.

John 3:16-17

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

We are His property and He is in the redemption business.

He doesn’t care how much our lives have been ruined by sin.

He is in the complete renovation process.

He is not looking for perfection, He is looking for the broken down.

He is looking for the broken hearted.

He is looking for the lonely.

He is looking for the ones that are beat down.

He is looking for the drug addicts and the alcoholics.

He is looking for the emotionally and physically abused.

And He has already paid the cost of our redemption in full, at the cross.

His blood paid the price for you and I to be redeemed.

His grace and mercy was released at the cross.

His grace and mercy isn’t dependent on whether I need it or not.

His grace and mercy isn’t dependent on me determining how much I need today.

He simply says, it is sufficient.

It’s enough for you and me.

That means, He doesn’t care what your mistakes are.

He doesn’t care how bad of person you are, or you think you are.

He looks at your sin and my sin, and says: I already paid the price for your redemption.

The right of redemption has already been completed for you and me.

From the foundation of the world, He had a plan B in mind.

He knew you and I were sinners, and the devil had already foreclosed on our future.

Even though you may feel like you are on the foreclosure list and the devil is auctioning off your dignity, your reputation, and your life.

Jesus is standing in the crowd today, and He is always going to be the highest bidder.

He is standing here today, trying to redeem his property.

He is trying to seek and to save you today, because you are His most prized creation.

Some of you today are thinking God can’t love me, I’ve done to many things wrong.

Some of you are dealing with the devastating effects of sin in your life.

Others here today, have failed in their walk with God.

You may be bound by sin and condemnation today.

But I have a God whose blood releases His grace and mercy and still fixes the sin problem.

God’s plan B is still in effect today.

He has activated the Right of Redemption.

God went to Calvary for you and I, so that the price of our sin could be paid.

It is the blood that brings about redemption.

It is the blood that washes away my sin.

But it’s His love that looked beyond my faults and saw my need

I told my church last Sunday:

The Bible says that He loved us from the foundation of the world. He loved me enough to go to Calvary

He loved me when He filled me with His spirit.

He loved enough that He took me back in my messed up condition and restored my relationship with Him.

He loved me yesterday.

And I am crazy enough to be convinced that He still loves me today.

I am not saved by my works, because all of the good works I could ever do would not cover the cost of the mistakes of my past.

But I have a God whose love still fixes the sin problem.

His love still releases me from a life of sin.

His love still conquers the condemnation and shame in my life.

My God is still the God of Grace.

He steps into the middle of my mess and turns it into something beautiful.

He’s not going to quit on you, just because you made a mistake, rather, He steps in and exercises His right of Redemption.

My sin separated me from God, but His blood paid the price for restoration

God still is in the restoring and redeeming business.

Romans 5:20-21

20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This morning, God is waiting on you.

Jeremiah 32:14 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Take these evidences, this evidence of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this evidence which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.

The earthly vessel that the redemption plan is supposed to be placed inside, is you, and me.

And the evidence of the ownership will be sealed inside of us, by the Holy Ghost.

And if you’re truly redeemed, the evidence that will be able to be seen by everyone around you.

You see God’s favorite song of all, is the song of the redeemed.

When those purchased by His blood worship Him; there is nothing more He’d rather hear.

This morning, this right of redemption is for you.

It is activated in your life, when you recognize your need of Him.

It is applied to your life, by obedience to His plan of salvation for you.

You may be asking a question that was asked 2000 years ago.

Acts 2:37-39

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

He is waiting at this alter for you.

He wants to redeem you today.

He is walking the aisles today, waiting for you to make that step of faith.

Won’t you come?
