Another Look At Calvary

 

John 20:24-28

24 One of the disciples, Thomas, “The Twin,” was not there at the time with the others.

25 When they kept telling him, “We have seen the Lord,” he replied, “I won’t believe it unless I see the nail wounds in his hands–and put my fingers into them–and place my hand into his side.”

26 Eight days later the disciples were together again, and this time Thomas was with them. The doors were locked; but suddenly, as before, Jesus was standing among them and greeting them.

27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger into my hands. Put your hand into my side. Don’t be faithless any longer. Believe!”

28 “My Lord and my God!” Thomas said. (Living)

Some things need that 2^nd look to fully appreciate the entire picture.

 

1 Kings 17:12-16

12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah. (KJV)

 

• Famine
• All that she had
• Was told to take and give that to the prophet
• Go and look the second time in the oil barrel
• Every time she took that 2^nd look and miracle continued to take place in her life

 

Josh 1:11

11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it. (KJV)

 

• 1^st generation never quite understood what exactly they had participated in
• Quail
• Manna
• Clothes
• Water
• Victories
• Deliverance

 

All they could muster was simply grumbling, complaining, and open rebellion, until the curse came forth that none of them should enter the promise land.

 

BUT…

 

The 2^nd look people had no problem not only understanding where they had come from, but also where the same God could take them.

 

ALL IT TOOK WAS A 2^ND LOOK!

• 31/2 yr follower
• Disciple
• Cast out devils
• Healed the sick
• Completely devoted to Christ
• 2 days lost it all
• Dreams
• Ambitions
• Purpose
• Frustration set in and that turned to bitterness
• After 3 days the others had seen Him, but not Thomas
• Would only believe by seeing the effects of the cross for the 2^nd time
• Doors locked, windows barred
• 11 days had passed
• JESUS ENTERS
• “Thomas” come and take another look at what I did for you
• Faith restored
• Hope renewed
• Life begun again
• “My Lord and my God”

 

ALL CAME FROM JUST A SECOND LOOK AT CALVARY!

 

What do you need to see today again?

• Cross
• Nails
• Stripes
• Pain
• Agony
• Betrayal
• Humiliation

 

Whatever you need to have happen to you this morning, He is here to show you just that.

 

He’s calling your name today instead of Thomas’s, but the same spirit He spoke with then, He is calling to you now…
