How Do I Find True Purpose For My Life?
In the beginning God created life…
Why did God create life?
Revelation 4:1-11 (NKJV)
4 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.”
2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne.
10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
11 “You are worthy, O Lord,
To receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things,
And by Your will they exist and were created.”
Many people, since the beginning of life itself, have asked this question, “What is the meaning of life?,” or “What is my purpose in life?”
Many have wondered through, and wasted their lives looking for the answer, but have never found it…
I must tell you, without a shadow of doubt, I have found the answer. I do not claim to be of great intellectual abilities.
I, only by the grace and revelation of Jesus Christ, have been blessed to be able to understand that it doesn’t take great intellectual ability, or psychic powers. All it takes is having a heart and mind that seeks for TRUTH.
Inside of every one of us, there is a void in our life. It’s a place that is always searching for true happiness, and true satisfaction. It’s searching for purpose and meaning in life.
People have tried to fill that void with many things. Fame, Money, Jobs, Homes, Cars, Relationships with other people, Drugs, Alcohol, the list goes on and on.
But they have never been able to fill that empty space.
What most people don’t realize is that God placed that empty void in our lives. He didn’t do this to punish us, that we might never find true happiness, or true satisfaction, He did this because He knew that this was the only way that He would be able to draw us closer to Him.
That void in your life, that you have tried to fill with other things, was created so that only one thing would ever be able to fill it.
And that one thing is the Holy Ghost.
No drug will every give you true satisfaction. No drink will ever bring true happiness. None of that stuff lasts.
But there is one thing that will give you what you’re looking for. It’s the Holy Ghost.
God loves you so much that he wants to save you and deliver you from yourself.
There is no love like God’s love. It’s real. It’s pure. It’s unconditional. It’s everlasting. That’s why God has allowed you to visit this church, it’s because He wanted to let you know that He loves you, and He wants to help you fill that void.
It is impossible to find true purpose in your life without being filled with God’s Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:3 (NKJV)
3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.
There are some of you here today that have been filled with the Spirit of God, but yet you still struggle with purpose because you are walking in the flesh and not the Spirit…
John 3:5 (NKJV)
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Which brings us to this important question, “How does one obtain the Holy Spirit?”
Acts 2:37-38 (NKJV)
37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”
38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The first thing that you must understand is that the Holy Spirit is a gift…
True repentance must take place before you can receive the Holy Ghost.
It’s yours! God promised it to you.
The Bible says that when you receive the Holy Spirit you will speak in another language. This is the evidence that you have received the Spirit of God.
Why must we speak in tongues?
James 3:5-8 (NKJV)
5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things.
See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
You were created for God. You were created to have an intimate and personal relationship with God.
