How To Obtain Freedom In Christ

 

Galatians 3: 26-29

26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

 

 

John 8:31 if you abide in me….

We talked last week about many areas that Christ can bring freedom in our lives…But        Specifically
Freedom To Worship
Freedom from Stinking Thinking
Freedom from the Bondage of Sin

I’d like to piggyback on that message today, and talk about “HOW TO obtain that freedom” I spoke about last week.

There’s an old saying that says proclamation without explanation leads to frustration….
A preacher can tell you that you need to do something, but if they don’t tell you how to you can leave frustrated instead of liberated!

So today I want to talk to you about how to obtain and keep your freedom in Christ….

Pray….

The first thing to having freedom in Christ is you got to get into Christ…
If you want to get in an organization, First thing you have to do is either join it or get into it….
To be on a ship the first thing you have to do is get into the ship.
The same with the church is you got to get onto that good old gospel ship.

Jesus said for as many of you have been baptized into Christ has put on Christ….

So let me just establish a little bit of foundation here today…
Our basic doctrine or belief is found in the book of Acts chapter 2 verse 38 belief in Christ
repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus and being filled with the Holy Ghost or the Spirit of God.

If you want to be IN Christ or have freedom IN Christ to get into Christ you have to be born into the church

So we believe that He died for our sins

We turn from our sins that’s called repentance and then we are baptized into Christ through water immersion in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins

Then Jesus seals the deal by coming and filling us full of his spirit, but that is not the end as some people think…. that is just the beginning of our walk with the Lord or our new birth INTO Christ

So if you want to be free in Christ, the first thing you have to do is to get into Christ by following His plan of salvation…
Belief, repentance, baptism and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost….

Again Jesus said for as many of you have been baptized into Christ has put on Christ!

Once you are born again or born into the church there is a newfound freedom in God that you’ve never experienced before.

 

You see things differently.
You think a different way.
You walk a different way.
You talk a different way.
You’re a different person than you used to be!

One of the first things you experience is that you’re no longer under a load of sin that you used to carry you have been set free in Christ!!!!
Somebody shout hallelujah thank God I’m free!!!!

Once you are in Christ the next thing you want to do to OBTAIN Freedom in Christ, is to make sure that you abide in Him…. Let me clarify

Last week our text was found in the book of…John 8:31 if you abide in my Word…then are you my disciples indeed…and you shall know the truth, and the Truth shall MAKE you free!
Jesus said if you abide in me and I abide in you…

Once we have arrived…. we’ve got to abide or stay or live in Christ, and with Christ. RELATIONSHIP!

Our Purpose…To know Him and to make Him known!!!!

We have to learn of Him and study Him through his word.
We’ve got to talk with Him daily through prayer and walk with Him in a relationship closely day by day.

In order to obtain the prize of heaven we have to walk with Him on a daily basis
it’s not about just the destination… but it is more about the journey on a day-to-day basis!!!

It’s all about the journey.
To have freedom in Christ we must remain in Him and with Him

In the book of acts the people were at sea with the apostle Paul and a storm arose and they became frightened and they wanted to jump ship for fear that the ship would wreck but Paul encouraged them if you want to be saved, you’ve got to remain in the ship!!!

The same goes for you and I…if you want to make it to heaven you got to remain in the church.

So you’ve got to get in and then you’ve got to stay in.
In other words, you got to get into the church and then you got to stay close to Jesus….

Jesus said come and learn of me…

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

New Living Translation (NLT)
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

If you want to find freedom in Christ you come to Him, you give Him your burden…and you take His load, because it’s light.
He said let me teach you or in other words… learn of me…

I am so glad that when I came to Him…I traded my burdens for His easy load, my sickness and sorrow for His healing & happiness, my sin for His salvation.

 

And lastly today, you’ve gotten into Christ…and you’re living for God and abiding in Him…
And everything seems to be sailing smooth….

When All of a sudden you’ll find yourself in the midst of a trial or tribulation or stressful situation in life…

To some people… it seems like as though, that as soon as you begin to live for God that all hell seems to break loose….

Living life in general has its ups and downs…
But it seems like when you begin to live for Jesus that things just seem to go wrong!
Am I right or am I the only one in here that happens to?
Well, let me just bring a word of Scripture to you today…
John 16:33 In this life or this world you will have tribulation….

You will have troubles…
You will have trials.
You will have tough times.

You will have heartache.
You will have things go wrong.
Things will not always go your way or as planned.

But now that you’ve gotten into Christ and you are abiding in Him…
But now it seems like all things are against you.
Let me bring you a word of hope and encouragement today.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

He said that these things I have spoken to you that in me you may have peace…
Once you’ve gotten into Christ and your abiding in Him and trusting in Him and knowing Him
and walking with Him you can have a peace that passes all understanding.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

1. Are you in Christ today? Do you believe that He died for your sins?
Have you repented of your sins?

Have you been baptized in the name of Jesus?
Have you been filled with His spirit and been born again?

 

2. Secondly are you abiding in Him are you finding yourself in His word daily are you drawing closer to Him day by day are you getting to know Him on a personal level?

Remember our theme at this church is to know Him and to make Him known

You see once you’re in Christ…and then you abide in Him there is nothing that this world can do or deal you or that the enemy can try to do to you that can sidetrack you or make you lose your faith, your trust, and your freedom in Christ!!!

You see freedom in Christ is the simple fact of trusting Him to the utmost with every area of your life.

 

How do you obtain Freedom in Christ???
