Deliverance From Evil

Matt 6:9-13

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

2 Tim 4:18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

  1. Delivering from evil. I believe that the word of God will keep and deliver His people from evil. There is evil in this world. There is a devil that is evil and after you. There is an evil world with its evil influences. And there is an inherent evil within man, which we have discussed at length and God is saying that He is capable and willing to deliver us from these evils.

Ps 121:7 The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

  1. “Deliver”, this word translated in a modern English would say “God will “preserve” us from evil. To be delivered, per say, would mean that you are in the midst of the evil, but when you are preserved, you have been stopped or rescued before you have been swept away into the sea of evil.
    1. Not only is our God a “deliverer”, He will deliver you from sin, from drugs, from alcohol, from ungodliness, from adultery, from the sins of the flesh. Yes, God can and He will deliver you from these things!
    2. But he will also “preserve” you from ever getting into sin, into drugs, into alcohol, He will keep or preserve you from ungodliness!!!
    3. It is wonderful to be “delivered”, but oh what a great salvation it is to be “preserved” from ever getting to the place of needing deliverance!
  2. The word says that God will deliver and preserve, but how does He do it?
    1. Remember there is an evil (lucifer, satan, etc.), and then there is an evil influence of this world and its ungodliness. There is also the evil within every one, the flesh that desires to rule.
    2. So how can God deliver?
      1.                                               i.     By someone else’s prayer.
      2. You are delivered and preserved by the prayer of others. You will only know in heaven how much you were preserved from by just someone calling out your name in prayer and interceding for you and on your behalf.

Lot had someone talking to God for him. Abraham knew and felt that Lot was in a bad situation. Lot did not have the power or the strength to get out of Sodom and because someone was talking to God, they knew the need and begin to seek God. He began to seek the deliverance of the whole city of Sodom. God, if you find any righteous there, will you preserve the city? Not only was it great that a man was interceding on the behalf of his nephew and the city of Sodom, but that God was listening and heeding the request of a righteous man.

DON’T EVER TELL ME THAT THE EFFECTUAL FERVENT PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN WILL NOT MOVE GOD!

Don’t you think for one minute that the prayers of Abraham did no good, even though the city could not be saved, God sent angels to deliver the ones that Abraham’s heart was crying for. Don’t think that the praying stopped when the angels left Abraham; Abraham was still seeking God and pleading with God. Because of that, because someone was on their knees, God sent angels to literally drag the ones he was interceding for, to “deliver” them out of the destruction meant for all the unrighteous. This is how the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man will work.

Don’t give up on your spouse, your child or your friend!

Genesis 19:16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

God will deliver, God will preserve when someone prays!

People all over are searching for the divine!

Why is it that according to the Library of Congress, that there are over 1701 books written on divinity and over 10,000 books out there that have been written on searching or finding the “divine”.

How is it that 900 men, women and children would give up all worldly possessions and families and follow a man named Jim Jones down to Guyana and become so paranoid that you would drink poison and die? They were searching for something divine and holy in an ungodly world!

How could educated men and women with college degrees give up their money and dress in multicolor sheets, shave their heads and chant “Krishna, Lord Krishna” 500 times daily and be happy?

They were looking for something divine and they were told that their lord Krishna was the ultimate divine deity.

The craze for finding the divine is taking on a worldwide interest. New cults are being formed daily and the think is that people are joining these cults. They don’t go to churches in the neighborhood, they travel far and wide, travel to India or Budapest looking and searching for the ultimate divine essence to help them through their lives. It cannot be so easy as to go to an apostolic altar!

2 Tim 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Ever looking, ever searching, looking for every new book, looking for every new church, every new preacher, every new tele-evangelist, every new psychic, every new trick or chant they see the terrible human nature. They see the ugliness of what man can do. So they look, search and hunt for the thing that is right before them all the time.

Right before them…God had a reason for his people to keep the word in front of them all the time.

Deuteronomy 17:18-19 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: 19 And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Deuteronomy 11:18-19 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

The reason? If you keep the word if front of your eyes, day and night and show your children day and night, you can never be confused about who and what God is, what He can do, or how He will lead and guide you.

If you don’t know the word of God in your heart, you can and will err on the side of searching and you will find what you believe is divine and it is in error according to the word of God.

God will preserve and deliver by faith. David said to Goliath…”You come to me with a sword and a shield…”

  1. God will preserve by ministering angels.

Heb 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

  1. Acts 12:5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
  2. I will tell you God will deliver…
  3. 2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
  4. Most important of all in preserving and delivering.
    1. Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
    2. That word “peace” means a lot more to people these days. Will we ever be at peace? Will the world ever be the same?
    3. Let me start with a small lesson in ancient Hebrew. It was a picture language, with no vowels, only constantans and pictures were used to describe the meanings of the language. Moses used Hebrew. The ancient scrolls were in Hebrew. Ancient Hebrew letters form pictures.
    4. When Jesus took the punishment for our peace, or the Hebrew word “shalom”, he took this suffering so his people could have peace!
    5. We say the word “shalom” or peace as it is translated, but what does it mean? How can we consider this being delivered from evil?
    6. We can say that Jesus gives us peace or that we have peace because of Calvary, or “I am at peace…” and it does not really say of what went on to get to that peace.

What we describe in on word, “peace”, in ancient Hebrew, this is the picture of what really happened.

“Jesus Christ destroys the authority of the one who binds us in chaos.”

  1. So when we pray to deliver or preserve us from evil, or pray for peace, what we are to believe is that because of Calvary, Jesus has destroyed the authority of the one who can put us into evil.
  2. Jesus can give us “peace like a river” because evil has no more authority over us. The devil, the world, the flesh can be put under the blood and authority of Jesus. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
  3. You are preserved from all evil because Jesus has the authority, now, not the enemy, not the world, not the flesh, if we believe, if we obey, if we pray!

This is why we have commandments. This is why we have holiness. This is why God has given us barriers and conditions, to keep preserved from all evil.

JESUS IS THE DELIVERER OF EVIL!

THE EVIL ONE HAS NO POWER BECAUSE JESUS TOOK IT AWAY AT CALVARY!
