7 Things The Devil Hates

Proverbs 6:16-19

16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

I.                                                                                            The Bible is plain in telling us the things God hates.

                                                                                                          A.          Solomon told us in verse 16 there are 6 things the LORD hates.

                                                                                                                        1.        Hate meaning as in like an enemy.

                                                                                                          B.          Then he follows it up with there are 7 things that are an abomination to God.

                                                                                                                        1.        Abomination meaning disgusting.

                                                                                                          C.          A proud look.

                                                                                                                        1.        Looking at someone else in disdain.

                                                                                                                        2.        Thinking we are better than others.

                                                                                                                        3.        Thinking of someone as unworthy of our attention.

                        D.        A lying tongue.

Revelation 21:8

8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

                        E.         Hands that shed innocent blood.

                                                1.        This speaks of murder.

                        F.         A heart that devises wicked imaginations.

                                                1.        Thinking up things that are considered evil with God.

                        G.        Being quick to do evil things.

                        H.        A false witness that speaks lies.

                                                1.        This can cover anything from in a court of law to false teachers and preachers.

                        I.          Sowing discord in the church is also an abomination.

                        J.         These are the 7 things that God hates is considered disgusting to Him.

II.        Now we want to look at 7 things the devil hates.

Acts 4:12

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

                        A.        The name of Jesus is something the devil hates.

                        B.        Without boring us with a reiteration of Tuesday’s lesson, suffice it to say, this name causes the devil great concern.

                                                1.        When we are baptized in that name…our sins are remitted.

                                                2.        When we pray in that name….we know He hears us.

                                                3.        When we praise in that name….we know He is greatly pleased.

                                                4.        It was Jesus that cast out legion.

                                                5.        It was Jesus who rebuked sickness.

                                                6.        It is Jesus who calms our fears.

                                                7.        It is Jesus who saves our souls.

                                                8.        It is Jesus who breaks the chains of sin.

                                                9.        The devil hates that name.

                                                10.      This is why he fights those who want to be baptized in the name of Jesus.

                        C.        The devil hates red.

                                                1.        This is the color of the Blood of Christ that was poured out at Calvary for the remission of our sins.

Hebrews 9:22

22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

                                                2.        When someone could not escape the condemnation of their past, they approached Bro G. T. Haywood about it.

                                                3.        Bro Haywood locked himself in his office for three days of fasting and prayer for an answer.

                                                4.        When he emerged from his office, he walked up the center aisle of the church singing;

On Cal’vry’s hill of sorrow
Where sin’s demands were paid,
And rays of hope for tomorrow
Across our path were laid.

1. Refrain

I see a crimson stream of blood,
It flows from Calvary,
Its waves which reach the throne of God,
Are sweeping over me.

Today no condemnation
Abides to turn away
My soul from His salvation,
He’s in my heart to stay.

Refrain

When gloom and sadness whisper,
“You’ve sinned—no use to pray,”
I look away to Jesus,
And He tells me to say:

Refrain

And when we reach the portal
Where life forever reigns,
The ransomed hosts’ grand final
Will be this glad refrain.

                                                5.        Oh how the devil must hate red!

                        D.        The devil also hates fire.

                                                1.        The word fire reminds the devil of the words of John the Baptist:

Matthew 3:11

11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

                                                2.        This is the fire associated with our salvation.

                                                3.        There is a fire associated with the judgement against the devil.

Revelation 20:10

10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

                                                4.        I’d much rather have the fire of the Holy Ghost than the lake of fire.

                                                5.        The more on fire we get the more the devil sweats.

                                                6.        The devil likes screaming and hollering when there is a fight in the home.

                                                7.        The devil likes people shouting and making loud noises at parties.

                                                8.        But he hates a church that is on fire and knows how to shout unto the Lord with a voice of triumph.

                        E.         The devil hates praying.

                                                1.        Praying turns the tide of judgement.

                                                2.        Praying strengthens the saints.

                                                3.        Praying unleashes the wave of revival.

                                                4.        Praying gets Gods attention.

                                                5.        Praying rocks the foundation of hell.

                                                6.        Praying sets people free.

                                                7.        Praying gives us victory.

                                                8.        How the devil must hate a church that prays.

                        F.         The devil hates praise.

                                                1.        Praise opens prison doors.

                                                2.        Praise binds the devil.

                                                3.        Praise unbinds  the power of God.

                                                4.        Praise is the pathway to receiving the Holy Ghost.

                                                5.        Praise ushers Jesus in our services.

                                                6.        Praise frustrates the devil and pleases God.

                        G.        The devil hates One God Preaching.

                                                1.        It was one God that kicked him out of heaven.

                                                2.        It is one God that will bind him for 1,000 years.

                                                3.        It is one God that will throw him in the lake of fire.

                                                4.        It is one God that stops him in his tracks.

James 2:19

19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

            H.        Finally, the devil hates a committed, consecrated person who is totally devoted to                         Jesus.

                                                1.        This type of person accomplishes more than the devil ever could.

                                                2.        The one thing I’ve learned….what the devil hates…..God loves.
