The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) was a single sermon that was taught in one setting. As the ministry of the Lord progressed, the points of this message would be reaffirmed constantly and thoroughly. The real and often missed fact of the Sermon on the Mount is that Jesus was endeavoring to bring true happiness to the lives of His disciples. In fact, nine times in the message, He would use the word “blessed” which can be translated as “happy.”

Matthew 5:1-12
Introduction
Matthew 5:1-12It is through the understanding of the working of the Word and Spirit that the SOM cannot be turned into a social gospel of sorts that many are attempting to convert it to. The very reason for the SOM to take place in a saint’s life is through the work of the Spirit. There is no such thing as a “social” gospel. The Gospel in its full reality will always be a spiritual Gospel. Unless we become partakers of the divine nature we will die in our sins. [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Beggars
Matthew 5:3-3Long to be poor in spirit! We cannot by any means save ourselves except to respond in obedience to the Gospel. The world exalts self-sufficient and motivated people, but God does not work in such a way. God looks for something entirely different. He is looking for those who beg on the inside. [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Weepers
Matthew 5:4-4Tears have a way of cleansing us. Just as Naaman dipped in the Jordan and was cleansed of his leprosy, there are tears of repentance that can lead to a great cleansing of our spirit. Jesus said that the mourners will be comforted. They will be comforted with an abiding joy that understands clearly that in the end, all matters will be settled by God. This mourning will bring about an undeniable sense of holiness, because it moves us into the presence of the Lord. The real mourning will strengthen a man for strong work in the Kingdom and help him to sustain a great commitment to the spiritual calling he has been called to do. [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Humble
Matthew 5:5-5The word “meek” means to be humble, gentle, patient, or with a spirit of humility. One way to gain some insight into what this trait that Jesus was saying would be blessed is to see the absolute opposite of meekness. Its opposite is pride, stubbornness, fierceness, vengefulness, self-will toward God and ill-will toward men. The actions of this man would be seen as submissive to the will of God in such a way that reflects a graciousness about the way he conducts himself. A meek man is one who refuses to retaliate, is not mired in selfishness, does not emphasize his rights or rightful position and will not exalt himself. [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Hungry
Matthew 5:6-6The first way, which is the most obvious way we can see if we are hungering and thirsting after righteousness, is to see if we are hungering and thirsting after righteousness. The appetites that are expressed by our actions are very clear indicators of it. Do I long for the presence of God? Do I have the evidence of active fruit of the Spirit present in my life? What of joy, peace, goodness, longsuffering, gentleness, meekness, faith and temperance? Does the Holy Ghost have the liberty to send impulses that causes me to move forward or to pause before I get involved in things of life? Do I have peace with God? Do I have fellowship with other believers? [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Merciful
Matthew 5:7-7If we do not have an element of mercy in us toward those in physical, material, or spiritual distress, we cannot consider that we are true believers. We do not become believers by extending mercy, but if we cannot extend mercy, we aren’t true believers. [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Pure
Matthew 5:8-8A man who is pure will be one who has a sincere and genuine attitude about his walk with God. He is blameless and innocent and there are no guilty stains on his life. This whole concept is absolutely the whole driving goal that needs to be present in every child of God’s life. A person who lives a life in this manner will result in an incredible testimony for others to observe and then give glory to God. [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Peacemakers
Matthew 5:9-9One of the great blessings that a peacemaker can enjoy is a life of simplicity. They rarely are the most noticed people, but wherever they are there is a calming presence of righteousness and truth. At the center of that simplicity is the ownership of God as Father. The Lord literally owns those who are the peacemakers. That needs to be an encouragement for all who are living out the Christian life. [ read more...]
Blessed Are The Persecuted
Matthew 5:10-12The Lord has keyed in our response to persecution by instructing us not to retaliate nor resent those who are guilty of persecution, but rather to rejoice. Why should we rejoice? Because there is something in your behavior and speech that has betrayed you as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Those around you recognize there is a work of God going on in your life. We need to rejoice because we can recognize that persecution is proof of your calling and the fact that you are keeping your election sure. The last reason we need to rejoice for the persecution is because we have a great reward awaiting us in heaven. The blessing of persecution is that it inspires us to look toward the heavenly home that awaits us where we will experience the fullness of joy, contentment, blessing, and fellowship with the Lord and His church. A Man Of Macedonia
Alexander the Great was from Macedonia and went on a military campaign where he and his armies conquered most of the known world at the time. Not only did he conquer the world, but he managed to get most of the regions that he conquered to declare him to be a living god. His home town of Macedonia thought of him as a son of Zeus; the priests in Jerusalem didn’t declare him to be God, but they did tell him that he was the fulfillment of the prophecy in Daniel 8; the Egyptians did declare him to be Pharaoh and the son of the god Amun; there are some who even think that he influenced the development of Buddhism. Everywhere that Alexander the Great, the original “Man of Macedonia,” went he was told that he was divine; a living deity living among mortal men. What Alexander The Great didn't realize was the impact he would have on people after his death. [ read more... ]

You Matter
People Matter. They matter to God and they should matter to us. One of the biggest hindrances to growth in any church is the general lack of compassion for other people. We easily find reason to dismiss someone from being someone we would introduce to Jesus due to how they look or what our impression of them is. However, They Matter. Just how they are at this very moment. This series will help your church to understand the urgent need to love people and to embrace them regardless of where they are at in their life. Without this, people will remain lost and our churches will not grow. [ read more... ]
