In Lesson 1: Filled with the Spirit, we learn God cannot give people His Spirit if they refuse to allow Him to change their old spirits and old hearts. Repentance is really vital to getting the Holy Ghost. You have to release your rigid and stubborn spirit by letting go of things God does not want you to have, or He will not give you His Holy Ghost. If He did, He would never be able to do anything through you by His Spirit, because it is too stiff and rigid and so full of yourself. When you let go of yourself and stop putting yourself forward all the time, and humble yourself by repentance, God has given you a new spirit that is SOFT and not STONY. In this series our text speaks of people who are asleep who should awake. It is therefore dealing with saints of God, Admonishing believers to get to the place they should be.
