While serving in ministry, we often have to fight many discouragements. Paul said in Acts 20:19 "Serving the Lord with all humility, with many tears and trials..." It's clear that even Paul faced many discouragements while ministering and spreading the gospel of Jesus. So how do you overcome discouragement so you can move ahead? We believe that these six principles will expectedly assist you in moving forward and overcoming discouragement.
1. Take time to grow:
- We minister better when we take time to relax, read, recreate, spend time with family and friends, and grow professionally.
2. Sift through criticism:
- While we take informed, constructive criticism seriously, our ministries are too precious to let unbridled criticism sabotage it.
3. Refuse to live with loneliness:
- Make cultivating friendships a priority.
4. Discern the source of your frustration:
- Differentiate the challenges intrinsic to ministry from the frustrations that arise because of differing cultural expectations, educational backgrounds, and philosophies of ministry between pastor and church.
5. Work your plan - then stop:
- Having a long-range plan and carrying it through are the best antidotes to the paralysis of guilt.
- Set a realistic plan and stop with that.
6. Persist:
- When progress seems to come to a halt, think: The Lord wants me to accomplish something here. If we persist, He'll help me break through to someone in a way that will be rewarding.
Just as Paul did, we can stay faithful till the end. Don't give up and keep on moving!

Sir, Reverend, Would You Have Them Hold the Mayonnaise
There are times that I really get wrapped up with being important. I mean those times when I am so into the importance thing that the whole world finds it’s orbit around me. I know that you may find that hard to believe, that “importance” could have such a dizzying effect on me but it does.
In fact some time ago, I found myself being very important. Our church was hosting a preaching workshop. Rick Wyser was doing his very good seminar “The Six Should-Be’s of Preaching” and I was feeling particularly important. We had plotted and planned and had all sorts of free books, gadgets, computer programs and all sorts of other things to give out to the participants. Somewhere around fifty ministers came and we were having a tremendous time. Nothing motivates me like talking about becoming a better preacher, so I was definitely enjoying the element....

Can You Turn a Loser into a Leader? Part 1
Part One:
"Not on your own, but with God's help you can!"
Luke 1:37
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible.
If you asked anybody, "What amazes you most about what Jesus did while on this Earth?" You would get responses like, "He raised the dead," or "He died for my sins" or "He healed the blind and the lame." No doubt that each of these are amazing works of God, Calvary can never be denied as the greatest work that Jesus did. I would have responded the same way. Calvary aside, one of the most amazing things to me that Jesus did while on this Earth was transforming the twelve into disciples, and ultimately into the leaders of the first century church. That was an amazing accomplishment.....

Putting People First - 10 attributes of a Leader
What attributes qualify us for leadership? Here is a few suggestions on how these qualities might be put to use.
1. Integrity – Where integrity is at stake, the leader works publicly. Behavior is the only score that’s kept. Lose integrity, and a leader will find himself in a directionless organization going nowhere.
2. Vulnerability – Vulnerable leaders trust in the abilities of other people and allow those who follow them to do their best. An invulnerable leader can be only as good as his own performance....

Money Matters - A Blessing Or A Curse?
Why is it that so many Christians who are working are not doing well financially? Unfortunately too many Christians are not equipped with the scriptures and methods required to better manage their money. A person who calls himself a Christian must adhere to the scriptures in order to better prepare himself. Christians should not worry about money. They should not fret about their finances. But they should rely on the blessing of God to provide for them everything they need....

The Path to Freedom
First you build a man. – Thou are Peter and upon this rock will I build my church. If Peter did not mature, the church would not grow.
- God has chosen to build his church upon people.
- He has chosen to use your life to build His church in the village you are from.
- If you do not grow, your church will not grow.
- This is why it’s important for you to study God’s Word.
- If you do not pray your church will not pray.
- If you do not have a genuine love for God, then your church will not have a genuine love for God.
- If you do not have compassion on the lost, your church will not have compassion on the lost.
- Your church will become a reflection of you.....

Things Every Minister Needs to Understand About People
Knowing what people need and want is the key to understanding them. And if you can understand them, you can influence them and impact their lives in a positive way. Listed are five things about understanding people:
- Everybody Wants to Be Somebody. There isn't a person in the world who doesn't have the desire to be someone, to have significance. Even the least ambitious and unassuming person wants to be regarded highly by others. Once that piece of information becomes a part of your everyday thinking, you'll gain incredible insight into why people do the things they do. And if you treat every person you meet as if he or she was the most important person in the world, you'll communicate that he or she is somebody - to you.
- Nobody Cares How Much You Know Until He Knows How Much You Care. To be an influencer, you have to love people before you try to lead them. The moment that people know that you care for and about them, the way they feel about you changes. If you want to help others and become a person of influence, keep smiling, sharing, giving, and turning the other cheek.
- Everybody Needs Somebody. Contrary to popular belief, there are no such things as self-made men and women. Everybody needs somebody to come alongside and help. If you understand that, are willing to give to others and help them, and maintain the right motives, their lives and yours will change....
