Jeremiah 13:1-7

 1Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

 2So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

 3And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

 4Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

 5So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

 6And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

 7Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

  • In the passage above, we find the Lord telling Jeremiah to go and get a belt and wear it.  He then tells him to take his belt and go to the Euphrates River and bury it among the rocks.  The Lord comes back to Jeremiah sometime later and tells him to go and dig out the belt.  Whenever Jeremiah does this, he finds the belt is now marred and useless.
  • As we read the writings of the apostle Paul to the church at Ephesus, we find out something very important about a certain belt.

Ephesians 6:13-16

  13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

 14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

 15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

 16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

 17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

  • It’s interesting that the first piece of armor that Paul tells us to put on is the belt of Truth!  So I ask you again, how much is your belt worth?  How much does Truth mean to you?
  • We should never take this belt off for any reason.  Everywhere we go and everything we say and do, we should always have this belt tight around our spiritual waist.  We cannot afford to wear the belt of Truth only on Sundays and on our mid-week service nights.  It’s not enough to just wear it when everyone is watching.  We aren’t to pick and choose which pieces of the armor that we want to wear.  Paul tells us to put on the WHOLE armor of God.
  • How unfortunate is it that, in this day and age, people walk out of our services and take off their belts of Truth.  They hide it from others Monday through Saturday and expect to dig it up for Sunday.  When Jeremiah did this, he realized that his belt was useless.  The belt has a purpose.  It holds things together.  If we take off our spiritual belt, things will begin to fall apart in our lives.  We should never try to get rid of our belt.  Solomon wrote:

Proverbs 23:23

Buy the truth and sell it not.

To know Truth is to know Jesus.  He said, “I am the way, the Truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
